Long time lurker, looking to purchase CVO
« on: April 24, 2016, 07:46:16 PM »

Hello all, been a member of the site for a while for the vast info. Current ride is an 09 Street Glide. Bike is currently equipped with an S&S 124". Been in there around 20 months. Has custom paint, agitator wheel, upgraded stereo system, thundermax ecm, blacked out for the most part. Bikes getting a little older and the new road glides are pretty darn amazing looking. Really really considering a CVO RGU.

Main reasons for upgrading are looking for more room for the lady friend on the back which also includes a tour pack. Heated features are a big plus, sound system/navigation, plus it's new.

Issues with current bike are it needs ANOTHER compensator, tank got a dent last year in the garage, exhaust heat shield cracked and makes hella bad noise(older S&S power duals), no tour pack, really really needs a bar upgrade.

Issues/hold backs I have currently are I have less than 10k miles on the 124. Really hate to just have that thrown away, especially considering it was an $11k upgrade when I did it. Really aren't drawn to the current paint layouts. The red/silver is growing though. Then comes the hassle of starting over again on mods/upgrades.

Few questions I have about a new bike purchase since I've never bought a single vehicle ever new...

Are dealers usually willing to negotiate the sticker price on the new CVOs? Does this price get better the closer to the August release of '17 model info?
Does Harley offer ESP or is it a 3rd party? Cost usually associated with this?
First upgrades would have to be exhaust and a tuner, not sure how I feel about taking a 30+ horse loss.
Would I be better off selling out right vs. trading in?
I suspect after 2 years in a row of CVO RGU the next year will be a standard RG for the CVO line up, don't want to miss out on the RGU but thinking maybe the colors and price get better come August?

Sorry for the stupid lengthy first post and maybe I should move some parts to another thread but we will see how this goes and thanks for the input

Rule of thumb- "It's either Parts or Payments!". Another rule of thumb- "Extras aren't worth crap when you trade."  I suggest if the current bike is paid for, keep it and buy a new RG. Or follow your heart/wallet.

Welcome to the posting side of the site from The Lowcountry of South Carolina! I hope you get the do I trade, sell it myself and buy new/used RG, keep what I have and maybe add a RG to the fleet.
Good Luck with the decision.

No harm in asking for a discount. Maybe keep the one you have and get a second hand one.?

Hell, there's still a few leftover '15 models on the floor in some places. Never hurts to offer them "x" dollars out the door. ESP is an aftermarket deal. Might want to just hold off a little longer as I suspect the 117 will be the stock engine in the 17 model year. Notice something funny about those 17s popping up? You're probably right on no SERGU for 17 though.

Don't know about all dealers, but it's been my experience that the prices are more likely to drop the longer the new models are on the sales floor.  Our local dealer still has a '15 Burgundy Blaze CVO RGU in stock.  He'd probably be more than happy to make a deal on it just to get it off his floorplan.

Oh, and welcome to the site from NW Lower MI.

Welcome from St. Louis, best chance for a CVO discount is after the new models hit the floor. Not sure all dealers will discount, so you might have to shop around.

Welcome from South Carolina. I'd try selling the bike first and see if you can get a good price. If not, trade and consider a 117 kit upgrade for the additional power. My dealer did negotiate on a brand new CVO I ordered.

You're going to miss that 124" if you let that slip through your fingers.  If you sell or trade the bike, you might want to consider finding a used motor to swap out the 124" so that you can keep it.
