Left muffler darker than right
« on: May 03, 2016, 10:14:56 PM »

I installed the V&H Power Duals with the V&H 4.5 High Outputs and had the bike tuned by the dealer.  I noticed the left muffler was completely blacked out while the right side was still clean.  Seams to may be running rich, since I get a strong exhaust smell while setting at red lights.

Dealer says the left getting darker is normal.

Anyone else have this issue.

Thanks
Steve

" bike tuned by the dealer.  Dealer says the left getting darker is normal."

Those 2 statements are your problem. Find a tuner with a known good reputation, get a thorough tune.

Agree, find a Dyno Tune shop and talk to them.

Assuming you don't have some strange flow issue that's putting all the flow out the left muffler, then what the previous respondents told you is most likely the problem.  Harley dealerships are famous (infamous) for not providing good tunes.  Most are more than happy to sell you a SEPST and a canned map, then do a couple pulls on the dyno to make a chart so you think they actually did a full tune.  Find a real fully qualified tuner.  That BS comment you received from the guy at the dealership shows that he is a typical dealership employee, fully trained in the "they all do that" and "that's normal" responses we've all been fed over the years.  It's what you get when they either don't know what's wrong and how to fix it, or they are just too lazy to check something out.

A properly tuned engine doesn't produce a strong gasoline smell btw.  And one more thought; you indicated that you installed the new exhaust.  Did you make sure to reinstall the O2 sensors in the correct locations?  It is very important.
