Hoist, I know there have been some data posted about what temps various oils (dino, partial-syn, full syn) begin to break down. Anyone have the links?
I think the problem here is that we don't know how hot the oil actually gets. All of the oil temp setups I know of only measure the cold oil before it returns to the engine, not the hot oil coming OUT of the engine.
While knowing the oil temperature in the pan is nice so we can see if it is getting hotter or colder, we really have no idea what the oil is as it leaves the hot engine, when it's at its hottest. To measure that, we'd need a sensor in the scavenge line from the oil pump or other spot close to that.
I don't know if I really want to know what that oil temp would be. We'd all probably chit a big one if we knew that number on a hot day sitting in traffic.
