Ratchet straps
« on: May 10, 2016, 02:44:47 AM »

Anyone know where to get good ratchet straps for trailering bikes? All I can find are the cheap low quality ones.

I look for the 1in wide straps that are rated for at least 1200lbs to 1500lbs each, usually they are 15ft long with a good solid ratchet assembly( I use them for other stuff also so the longer ones work better for me).  I don't usually care about the brand. I have gotten them at Tractor supply(farm supply store), Northern tool, MSC Direct, etc. Usually run about $25 to $45 for a pack of 4 depending on where you get them. I also look for them in a high visibility colors, Orange or Yellow.

+1 for Tractor Supply.  I also look at the load capacity.  BTW I dont like the home depot orange ones.... I did get a nice set from home depot with thin s hooks.. the thin hooks work good when sharing the d hook for 2 bikes.

I went with "Powertye - big daddys" . Very sturdy, very nice wrap tail. Have used them for several years. They come in a nice bag to keep them safe when not in use.

X2.....Powertye has good stuff.  Their sheepskin soft tyes are the best at protecting whatever you wrap them around.

If you tie your bike down alone.....get the ones with the flat hook with the spring lock. No way for it to come off your soft tie while working with it.

Thanks for all your help. I'm going with Powertye. One last question. Have any of you found any of the accessories useful (i.e. Ratchet covers or padded sleeves)?
