garage door opener
« on: May 10, 2016, 07:32:19 AM »

I recently had my garage door replaced/ opener & it's all digital. The old one I just wired to my opener & presto operated off my h/l switch. I wired this one up like a wall switch & it's inop. It's been 5-6 years since I did this & don't have the instructions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What brand of opener did you have installed?  If it was made by Chamberlain (they make Chamberlain, Lift Master, many Craftsman models, etc.) and uses the multi-function wall panel, you can't just wire it to the opener like the old simple models.  The easiest way to do it, if you know how to solder wires to a circuit board, is to take the two wires from the Harley receiver and route them to the wall control, then solder the wires to the pins for the actual open/close switch.  Other options exist as well, but they involve additional hardware and expense.

Yes it's the Chamberlin model with smartphone app. Thank you very much!

I replaced my opener with a Chamberlin last fall and had the same issue.  Had issues with all my old remotes and car Homelinks too.  I have not done the wire fix supplied above yet primarily due to I do not have a wall receptacle near the door opener wall control and did not want to run a bunch of wire from a receptacle.  It was just too easy to stick a mini remote in my road glide fairing storage. I'll eventually try Jerry's fix.
