If it's just a case of hazing due to moisture being trapped in the material, you would think it would dissipate and go back to normal if you let it set in the sun for awhile.  If in fact that's what it is. a good rubber treatment product (non-slippery) might seal the surface and prevent the issue.  As for why the rider boards do it and not the passenger boards, perhaps the surface of the passenger boards haven't had the original coating worn off yet while the rider boards have gotten more use?  With the variability shown by many H-D products, who really knows?

True Jerry. On this particular bike, 2015 RG Ultra, it's ridden 90% of the time 2 up including a trip to Sturgis last year.

Hopefully the Docs or some other non slip product will work. If not I'm going to ask my dealer about it.

Looks kind of like a water/oil chemical reaction to me. Do you happen to wear your riding boots in a factory or somewhere that the floor surface might be oily?

No. Pretty much only when I ride.

Watch the Doc's, it has petroleum in it, not good on rubber. Mine have done this since new, easy to correct, no big deal.

Happened on my 2015 SESG after the first wash..... No chemical at all used to wash her.

It is most likely something you stepped in.  Probably at a gas station.  Diesel and gasoline can react with certain polymers/rubber.  Also could be a chemical reaction between the type of material on the soles of your boots and the rubber.

Thanks for the heads up. What did you use to easily correct it?

I'm  open to this but it is odd that it's never happened with any of my other bikes over the last 15 years. Also, I'd have to have stepped equally in a good enough amount with both boots, possible but not probable.

If it is a chemical reaction to my boot sole it would be due to the manufacturer changing the compound of the floorboards (which is possible) and then back again as I have worn the same boots on two other bikes, one before this one and a newer 2016 Streetglide.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to give feedback to the suggestions to eliminate or confirm suspects.

Guaranteed fix, Rob - wipe it with a rag moistened with what we call in the UK "white spirit" - turpentine substitute for household oil based paint.  Says here you call it "mineral spirits"? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_spirit

It's the best rubber cleaner there is, and great for tyres too.

Let us know what you think! I always have a container of it in the workshop as it is so useful - cleans oil spots off the floor, among [many] other things.

Worse case scenario, it's still under warranty. Have the dealer change them.

I have a product I use on plastic trim on the Avalanches called Refinish Restorer that is amazing for faded plastic but not too sure how well it would work on rubber. It's a PITA to get off of paint or chrome if you're not careful putting it on though.

This happened to mine (15SESG)first week I had it. Just a quick water wash for bugs and after drying it turned the same way. I have tried everything as well.  Please keep us posted if it works out.
