Floorboard discoloration. Anyone else have this?
« on: May 17, 2016, 02:54:08 PM »

When my bike was about 8 months old, I was at Ribfest and a rain came and this is what my rider floorboards have looked like ever since. Notice the passenger floorboards are not affected.  :confused5:

Try a product(s) like this - Meguirs Ultimate Black. Looks like sun fading or some type of residue on the rubber. Whatever product you find/use like this make sure it doesn't make the floorboard slippery. :nervous:

That's weird. I'm sure you scrubbed them good first? I'd agree with the comment on applying a product. I use "Back-to-Black" on plastic trim pieces for automobiles, not sure what's safe for rubber though. Take a look on Griot's Garage and see what they have. They are pretty knowledgeable about detailing.

I wonder if you walked in gas or some chemical and it transferred to the floorboard.   That  is  weird      :nixweiss:

Adams Polishes VRT is the best thing for rubber and plastic.  Try it....it's cheap and it works awesome....and it gives UV protection too.

Mine look exactly the same Rob, I thought maybe it was caused by the Bike Bright that I wash the engine area with.

I use Mothers Reflections rubber dressing on mine, rub in with micro fiber. They look like new. Not slick or greasy.

Mine has done it since new but only after I wash it. It seems to disappear after awhile.

Mine of course looks black while wet but returns to the whitish color when dry. I've tried a couple of different cleaners and polishes but no luck.

Just curious as to why this is an issue at all. I've never had it on any of my other bikes in the past or present.

I would think if it was a bad batch of rubber it would do it to the passenger pegs as well.  Maybe not depending on the manufacturing process.
