Suspension for 2016 CVO Road Glide Ultra
« on: May 17, 2016, 08:39:34 PM »

I recently purchased 2016 Road Glide Ultra CVO which is my second CVO (1st 2012 Road Glide).  I was shocked to see to see that Harley used standard shocks vice premium shocks.  2012 came with premium shocks and you can truly tell the difference.  If I had the option I would take upgraded shocks over TPMS any day.

Yep, I traded a 12 SERG Skunk for my 15 SERGU.  First ride on a very tight curvey road I thought their was something wrong with the 15.  Tried everything to get air shocks set to handle.  However at the 1K mark on my bike I gave up as I was scared to ride it hard in the curves, kept felling like it was loose in the back.

Put on a set of Ohlin HD-159 shocks.  Bike now handles the curves better than the 12 did, has more lean angle as its a 13 inch shock unlike the 12 inch on the 12 SERG.  It also rides better.

Dave, does your 2015 SERG sit higher now ......and did you make any changes up front?

The Ultra's  such as my 2015 SERGU come with 13 inch shocks so it did not change how it sits.

What most people do not realize is the Street Glide CVO, the Road Glide CVO, Road King CVO, all non ultra come with a 12" in the rear, but they have the same front as the non lowered rear bikes.  So the geometry is a little off on them.

I'm most likely going to add the 13 inch Ohlins to my CVO King, for more travel, better turn in for the curves and more lean angle and better ride.

Dave, I  appreciate your comment and will be changing out my shocks soon.  I need to do a little more research before I purchase a new set.

I did the same with Lucille but went for the HD 13" Premium shocks it should have come with once I discovered that the standard had dropped. If I had of realised I would have changed out the air shocks with the premium shocks on the 11. Oh well we live and learn.

Totally agree with Dave on clearance, lean angle handling etc. Bike does sit higher than a lot of other models but I am good with that. I am very happy with Lucille's suspension now.

Cheers Tom
