Spook - first thing I would do is figure out what is causing your funk. Is it the bike? Lack of riding partner? Performance? Something in another area of your life? I wouldn't make a move until I knew that.

Whatever you do, I hope it makes you happy.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the reply. Not quite sure whats going on.  Part of it is my alienation from the Harley Davidson culture and all that goes with it. Maybe just to many years of buying the sizzle and excusing the shortcomings of the brand.  That is NOT a condemnation of those who love their bikes and the life style aspect of the brand. It just has gotten old for me. This bike is well built, does what it is designed to do and is stunning to look at but just doesn't excite me as much as a 40K bike should.  But again that is my issue, not the bikes. Anyway will have to sleep on this and then decide on what to do.

Sounds to me like a new bike surely isn't the answer. If you sell it yourself for another $2-3 grand more than the dealer is offering and do decide to get another bike down the road, you've more than made up for the tax savings if you did go that route.

I understand your funk as I recently got out of a hobbiy I had been into for many years. Everyone thought I was going to regret it but so far I'm glad to be done with it and I'm glad to not have the equipment sitting around pressuring me to do something I didn't really want to do (brew beer).

I think the 2-3 day ride thing is a great idea also. However, if the thought of that turns your stomach (so to speak), then you're done for now and should sell it. You know what you can get from the dealer so what's the harm in trying to sell it for a week or two while you think? No better time to try and get top dollar when you're not sure you want to sell it. Harder for folks to haggle you down.

As you know I have been attempting to half heartedly sell my 2015 Mercury CVO SG...  Just kind of in a funk and the bike sits in the man cave most of the time...only 2xxx miles on her.  I do ride my GSA BMW but not much with the HD.. Anyway local dealer will give me 29.5K for the bike..with the option of considering it a trade in for the next year on a new bike if I so choose to save sales tax on next purchase.  What says the collective wisdom?  Get rid of it, keep it and STFU...or?  I know only I can make the final decision.  Just whining out loud to clarify my thoughts.  Thanks in advance.
Have you heard of Craigslist? I am being a smart ass, that would be your best option. One year old CVO Ultras are being offered for $35,000 in my area. If not 29.5 is a strong offer from a dealer. How bad do you want it gone? Bikes are hard to sell especially CVO's, only certain bikes sell easy like 1800 cc Goldwing's. Not everybody has $30,000 or more to pay for a CVO! Everybody says they want one, but can't even come up with $15,000.

Wasted?  To me, that's bullchit.  The pleasure I've enjoyed on throwin' money at all the Harleys I've owned, and lookin' at 'em and ridin' 'em, is priceless.  I'd do it again, and still doin' it.  If it was me, I'd pawn that BMW off on some deserving soul, and put a Big Motor in the Harley.  There endeth the lesson.  Later--HUBBARD
I think spook 120 is saying that he is a BMW man, not a Harley man! Putting more power to it is not going to work. I did something similar, except I left Harley for a Goldwing for a couple years, and didn't like it, so I am back, the Goldwing was a great bike, but didn't fit me. I struggled with the decision and wanted to keep both, but couldn't justify $50,000 tied up in two bikes. I sold the Goldwing and feel much better about it. So I say to Spook120 sell the damn thing already!

Thanks for the input.  Just about to hit the wind...on my GSA.  Maybe it is time for a break.  Don't know what you had till its gone may ring true.  The local Craigslist has nothing but HD on it!  Kind of sad actually.  The advantage of going the dealer route is that someone most likely will finance this bike and that is way easier through a dealership.  Not sure what I will do yet, maybe Ebay, maybe dealer, maybe just keep the bloody thing for garage art.  Goes well with all my HD crap hanging on the walls.  Thanks again guys.

Spook120,

You can still sell the bike privately and have HD do the financing for the buyer. Doesn't cost you anything and the buyer can purchase an extended warranty if the choose.

Didn't know that.  Thank you. Today I am taking the CVO out for a ride and somewhere along the route will either head for the dealer or bring it back in the garage.  Guess the ride and the road will assist in that decision.  This has become way to much drama in my life...and regrettably on this forum.  After all it is just a bike.  They come.  They go.  Thank you all for your wisdom and insight.  Much appreciated. He is firm at 29.5 Started out at 29K....  I do think I could have a new SG CVO in 2017 if one does materialize. According to my buddy who is a salesman  they will list the bike at 32.5K He also stated that the Mercury SG is one of the most unique and desirable bikes HD produced. That said it is almost 2 years old and will be out of warranty in September... As I ponder this deal I KNOW it is not the bike that is the issue here.  It is me.  The other option I have is to throw money at this bike, do the 117 kit, get a Corbin, new windscreen ect...and ride it.  But as we all know any money spent on modifications is basically wasted when it comes to bike value.. , I do appreciate the perspectives offered.  It would be strange not to have a HD in the man cave as this is my 15th HD bike in the past 25 years.  Go figure. Thanks again.

My 2015 CVO Street Glide has a whopping 700 miles on it.  I have thought about selling it, but I know all it would take is to see one on the road and I know I'd regret it.  I did this....I had a 14 Street Glide Special....my first son was born and I got good money for it and bought a 14 Camaro 1LE....after about 3 weeks, I was sick to my stomach knowing I made the wrong choice.  I tried to like it, but on a nice day, when a group would ride by, I'd be upset.  Take the $29.5K and bail.  But, if you don't like, or ride the 2015, what would make you think you'd like a new one.  They'll never change it drastically.  You shouldn't have a hard time selling privately....

spook120

I am no help other than misery loves company.
I too have a R1200GSA that gets all the attention in my garage while my CVO just sits there.
I have made some half hearted attempts at selling it and some day long rides trying to fall in love with it again.
No success with either.
I have even struggled with trading the CVO for a newer version, but then realize I would still be unhappy with the same issues and have a $5000 fix it list just to get started.
My son said to me:  "Dad, I can't imagine you without a Harley"
My wife tells me not to sell it, but always chooses the BMW when we go riding.
When I go out for a solo ride, I always go to the GSA.
And yet, I still have the CVO.
I think stupid things like  "it's paid for so I might as well keep it" then I move it around the garage and think "why don't I just get rid of this?"

If you get it figured out please let me in on the secret.
