Dealer offer
« on: May 19, 2016, 09:40:13 AM »

As you know I have been attempting to half heartedly sell my 2015 Mercury CVO SG...  Just kind of in a funk and the bike sits in the man cave most of the time...only 2xxx miles on her.  I do ride my GSA BMW but not much with the HD.. Anyway local dealer will give me 29.5K for the bike..with the option of considering it a trade in for the next year on a new bike if I so choose to save sales tax on next purchase.  What says the collective wisdom?  Get rid of it, keep it and STFU...or?  I know only I can make the final decision.  Just whining out loud to clarify my thoughts.  Thanks in advance.

What would you trade it in for? It wouldn't make much sense to trade if you are still "in a funk".

See if you can bump him to $30k and sell it with a "first right of refusal" option on a 2017 CVO Street Glide that may be 117ci if the wispers are correct.

Regards

He is firm at 29.5 Started out at 29K....  I do think I could have a new SG CVO in 2017 if one does materialize. According to my buddy who is a salesman  they will list the bike at 32.5K He also stated that the Mercury SG is one of the most unique and desirable bikes HD produced. That said it is almost 2 years old and will be out of warranty in September... As I ponder this deal I KNOW it is not the bike that is the issue here.  It is me.  The other option I have is to throw money at this bike, do the 117 kit, get a Corbin, new windscreen ect...and ride it.  But as we all know any money spent on modifications is basically wasted when it comes to bike value.. , I do appreciate the perspectives offered.  It would be strange not to have a HD in the man cave as this is my 15th HD bike in the past 25 years.  Go figure. Thanks again.

bigchuck is spot on, if you are burned out on riding HD, just sell it to the dealer outright(if he will do that  :nixweiss: :nixweiss:). I would not do a 117 kit on the Mercury as it will not make a huge difference, unless you do some cams, headwork, etc. Good luck with your decision.

Agree.  Get rid of it already.  That's the only way to stop this insanity.  Only then you will either finally be at peace or realize you made a big mistake.

Wasted?  To me, that's bullchit.  The pleasure I've enjoyed on throwin' money at all the Harleys I've owned, and lookin' at 'em and ridin' 'em, is priceless.  I'd do it again, and still doin' it.  If it was me, I'd pawn that BMW off on some deserving soul, and put a Big Motor in the Harley.  There endeth the lesson.  Later--HUBBARD

I like the idea of "first right of refusal" on a 2017...if you give him the bike now, you will know if you made a mistake or not by the time the 17's come out...then if you want you can refuse the '17 and you're done.

I agree with MJB765.  It seems like a you win either way as long as you are Ok with the $29.5K.

Can I get some of that loose discreationary money from you Hub?  I'd like to follow in your footsteps.   :huepfenlol2:

Seriously, I'm right there with you.  I've tried substituting the habit for another brand.....it just didn't work for me.  I'd sell the 110" motor and put an S&S 124" in there.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the opinions.  I apologize as this saga continues.  Have played the big motor game....never again...120 Tman streetglide....Totally unreliable...5 starters later it went to a new home.  Lost my ass on that deal.  Like to be able to count on my bike getting me back to the garage.  No debate started here, if that what you like I am happy for you, just not my deal anymore.  Again, sorry for beating this to death.  Just wanted some input which I received.  Appreciate all perspectives.

One last thought. Take it out for a 2 or 3 day trip. It may help clear your head. By the time you get back you very well may have your answer. A few more miles won't hurt the value any at all.

HUBBARD, I've been seeing it and wondering too long. So I have to ask, what does"W.H.O.R.E." stand for?

Then again if they come out with a new engine for 17 we could see another 2007 scenario :'(
