Battery removal made easy
« on: May 22, 2016, 12:16:10 PM »

You've removed the seat, the bolts that hold the battery caddy, disconnected all the wires and there it is, your defective battery.  It's in a case too small to get a hold of and without the strap the manual says is there to assist in its' removal.   Do not fret because you lack super human strength to pry it out with the last inch of your fingers.    Duct tape once again to the rescue!

If it is for sure defective and no longer will be used? Then Visegrips/Channelloks or similiar on one of the posts and pick-it-up.

Or just screw a bolt in to the top of each post and pick it up by those.  Then you don't even damage the posts.  Or if you're really really good use a straw and just suck that sucker out of the hole.

If you used Gorilla tape you would only need one "strap".  ;)

I thought the MoCo supposedly added a strap several years ago that goes under the battery to help lift it out of it's little cave.  Did they already eliminate it in a cost savings move, or am I wrong about the strap?  Regardless, once the battery is out I think I would rig up my own lift strap before I put the battery back in the tray, just in case you run out of duct tape next time.

Make your own out of heavy duty tie down strap material.

excellent idea but suggest the material creating the handle be non-metallic.

I wish I'd seen this a few days ago.  I was changing my battery last Saturday and the strap broke.  I now have a total of 17 cuts between both hands.  The don't hurt but sting like heck.  I'll  be using the duct tape method next time.
