58mm backplate options for SE Agitator breather
« on: May 27, 2016, 08:04:38 PM »

Ive found a couple backplates on the Harley website, but it doesn't explicitly say if it will fit 58mm TB's. Anyone run an Agitator breather or one of the newer "round" style breathers with a 59mm TB? Just looking for options. Thanks!

If you go to the detail pages for the various extreme billet air cleaners, then click on the "More" tab, you will find the instruction sheet for each model.  At the end of the instruction sheet is an exploded drawing and a list of the parts contained in the kit.

The only difference between the kits listed for the stock 50mm throttle body and the 58mm throttle body is the part number of the backplates, as follows:

50mm kit  -   Chrome P/N 29624-08    -   Black P/N 29000070
58mm kit  -   Chrome P/N 29000080   -   Black P/N 29000079

The only difference would be the diameter of the opening that matches up to the throttle body.  And the funny thing is that both versions come with the exact same part number for the gasket that fits between the backplate and the throttle body.

The hole pattern for attaching the plate to the TB is the same on both, so if you were to buy a kit that says it's only for the 50mm TB and if the center hole is only 50mm in diameter instead of 58mm, you could still make it work by having that center hole machined out to the 58mm diameter.  At this point I don't know if the plates really have a different center hole diameter or not, since the photo's Harley uses in the catalog show the same plate for all of the various kits and the distance from the mounting holes to the center hole looks the same.

Thank you! Also digging on a few other forums, but it did cross my mind to buy what I have, then have it machined to 58mm. The edge of the opening just looks so close to the mounting screw holes, so wasn't sure if it was possible.

All of the parts are being gathered and prepped (heads, cylinders, throttle body, etc) and then I will take the bike in once they are ready. So I am looking to buy a plate and then sell my stock plate as a take off part, or else Id have the stock unit machined if possible.

I'm sure jerry has the correct part numbers. It's a simple install. . I did it on my 12 sg. Goes right on.  Stuart

The part numbers for the 58mm TBs didn't show up on the Harley site. I can make it in to the dealer sometime and see if they can order.

Just went down this street last week... I orderd the complete AC kit for the 58mm, no one saling me the parts knew if just a back plate would work, all the parts in kit are same except back plate. Yes the hole in the 58mm plate is larger but not by much. I would say if you got the time and have the 58 TB in hand it wont take much to make it fit if your handy. also the numbers cast on the back of both plates are the same

Thanks for the help, guys. The person doing the work told me to save my money, he can get my current unit machined if needed. Can't wait to be done!
