Time to spend some money......

17/200 or 18/180 rear?

I know there are people that say the tires are under rated when going to a 21 & 17/18 combo. I'm open to hearing all arguments. Is there anybody out there that has had an issue with certain size tires? I had an 09 RG I put a 21/18 combo with a 200 rear on the 18x5.5 and it was horrible. That bike had issues though. I went to a 180 and it was better, but that bike was a lemon. Love the 21/17 or 18 look.

2011 SESG, Progressive Mono tubes @ standard height, think it dropped the front about 1/4-1/2 inch. Just ordered Olins 3-3, which should raise the rear slightly? I'm thinking with the suspension combo a 21/17 or 18 shouldn't be bad. Opinions???

Easy.... not everybody at once :)

Let me ask a question to the people running 17/21's. I have seen a few pictures of bikes that look like the bottom frame rails are at a serious rake, with the front being high. If you are running 17/21, is  your front end considerably higher than the rear now? What did you do to combat it?

I have a 21 front 17x6 200 rear and love it.   But I'm dropping front by one inch.

Thanks, can you post a profile picture showing the frame rail on level ground? I'm curious to see how much of a rake it is. Thanks again

Thanks, I was on my phone and didn't notice the first picture. It's definitely at a rake.... Lowering the front will help for sure. I may end up doing the 18x180 in the rear.

Who makes an 18 x 6.26 or wider rear wheel? Everybody wants to run a 200 rear tire, but they are forced to go with a 17... WTF?

I think you go with 17 without any modifications to the bike.

 :worthless:I think the issues are with the 21 causing rake and trail problems. My friends say the 19 to 21 swap does not change handling butt after lowering the front back down 1" they say it easier to ride fast . Stay with a 180 on the back to keep off track to a minimum.  Went to  Sturgis in June just changed to a 21 and did not have time to lower for the rally and the bike handle horrible on the roads specially the tighter ones
