Air ride suspension
« on: June 02, 2016, 04:43:16 PM »

I know there's a thread about this topic.  But I'm in the market for a air ride suspension.

Dirty Air? Legends? Arnott? Skully?

Which one is good for long distance riding?

I went with The new Legend Aero shocks based on the advice of the shop that did the work.  The Dirty Air/Monroe shocks are Corvette shocks and they'll get the job done, but they aren't intended for motorcycle use.

Once you find your sweet spot with the Legends....it's like riding on a cloud.

I am obviously biased since I have had Legends on three different bikes and no experience with any other brand.  I find them to have good ride quality which is important to me and my co-rider as we do quite a bit of long distance touring.  If you like to push it and have the greatest handling then I honestly don't know how Legends stack up.

The only complaint I've ever heard about Legends is that they are slow to pump up so if you plan to drop it down every time you stop and air it back up when you start back up that may be an issue.  I set it and forget it.  Only real adjustments is from solo to two-up and then again if pulling the Bushtec trailer.

Over the ten years or more I've had Legends I've had to send them back for service - oil leak once and air leak another.  I found their customer service to be exceptional and fast.

Hope this helps.

I set it and forget it.

So it's ok to set it and leave it alone overnight or longer?

Tony you can just have a tank added to the system so you have instant air instead of waiting on the compressor to air up. I did the DIY system on my SERG and like it just fine. Its a whole lot less money than the other options.

Big Lew,

You mean the Tank will be an addition with a air ride of my choosing?

It shouldn't bleed down overnight.  After several days it may be down a bit and I have to add air.  In my experience none of the air shocks including the stock ones hold their air pressure indefinitely.  They all lose a little over time.

I have probably the old version and have been happy but they do bleed down overnight but took me awhile to figure out why my alarm was going off at a hotel which probably didn't make me very popular. Anyway I just got used to dropping them down when I park. ;D

I just added one to the DIY system I installed. That way I have instant air instead of waiting on the compressor to pump it up. Got it from Puzzled on this forum. Mike can give you some insight on the different systems. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Can't speak to the high dollar systems, I've never owned one. If you want something that handles great with the twistes don't buy air. Better yet don't buy a Harley. But I'm happy with the system we put on and its a lot less money.

It seems to me they had a one inch lower version so that would be all you need. Of course maybe something I'm not aware of :nixweiss:
