CVO Harley.com History
« on: February 09, 2007, 02:04:22 AM »

Can someone post a history of the site? I was just reading about a hacker back in '05. What other milestones has the site accomplished and endured? How did Neal come up with the idea? Who were the founding fathers and first to join? Who have we lost? Highlights?

AJ, click on "Members" up above and then click to sort by date.  You'll see that of the current crowd excepting Neal none were present at the creation (proper citation to Dean Acheson).  In fact you can scroll through that list for a surprising length before beginning to regularly see names we still recognize today.  If you look through that list of names and also glance over at their numbers of posts it's easy to see that Neal didn't have a lot of conversation for the first several months.

If memory serves the members list shows Neal "signing up" in March of 2002 and the entire remainder of 2002.  Not counting Neal the all the rest of the members that signed up for the entire rest of that year only made about 100 posts (and they weren't all likely made in 2002).  IROAR joined almost exactly a year after Neal and he's the first familiar name and the first person you see (again, excluding Neal himself) with more than 30 or 40 posts.  Of course it likely felt differently to those present at the time but just considering the raw numbers it looks like the site took 18 months or so to really begin to get its legs.  Then at a point from about 18 months on you begin regularly seeing more names that joined and stayed.  Now it's the zoo it is today (and that's a good thing).

If you look at the members list like Twolanerider suggests, you see a poster named Rob, the fifth member to sign up - if this list is accurate - and who has made one post.  He is from Poland, has a growing family and last visted our site on Jan 7, 2007.  So you don't have to be a prolific poster to still find value from the visits.
Naitram is Forum Admin and he signed up Dec 31 2000. GJMiller58 was the first female to sign up.  Naitram announced that the site was three years old, April 1, 2005.

Man oh man, got to find a way to sleep through the night.

Interesting exercise.  I've only been on board since mid November and there have been 306 join since me.  That makes me feel like a veteran of the site.

I couldn't find a better place to ask this question so:

Some of the earlier members have a signature of "I love YaBB 1G - SP1! "

What does that mean?

I think that was the original website software, like SMF today. Musta been a default sig from them! That's my guess!

YaBB was the previous software that was used. YaBB = Yet Another Bulletin Board. The numbers behind it might have been version numbers of the software not really sure though. :nixweiss:

Just a WAG here, but I would assume 1G SP1 would mean 1st Generation w/Service Pack 1 update.   :nixweiss:

Ok, after some more resarching the 1G SP1 is "YaBB 1 Gold - SP1 released December 15, 2001 - with Service Pack". The "G" stands for gold, and the SP does stand for service pack.
