Clutch Pak replacement
« on: June 17, 2016, 09:07:55 AM »

Plan on replacing comp soon with the latest and greatest SE comp, since I'm in there was thinking about replacing clutch pak also. I have no problems with stock HD clutch, after shopping online the stock setup adding up to $250 er so for friction disc and steel disc, clutch spring another $25.

Looking for recommendations of aftermarket clutch pak kit from real world experience please.

TIA

'Been running the Alto Carbonite Kit 0957750NC, frictions & steels, in the '09 (stock basket) for over 10k mi. so far, perfect clutch actuation, adds grip, but neutral was evasive until i put in just a qt of Formula+ instead of the factory recommended 38 oz on a wet fill, now perfect all the way around... The Alto is about $100 less than the factory replacement.

You might just want to stay with oe if the extra grip is not required, you might just want to examine / measure the stock plates and if within specs, reuse them? They are fairly robust...

'Highly recommend flushing the hydraulics "while you're at it"...

Not to get off topic, but it is clutch related :nixweiss:

I considered it?? but didn't think that 6 oz would make that much of a difference :nixweiss: Been using the 1qt for about 7k, changing with the oil, the primary is still quiet and well behaved...(30k+ on the old style comp  :nervous:)... Curious to see how long it stays that way...

I do use the friction zone often practicing slow speed maneuvers, figure eights and such. I was confident in what I wanted to replace with, OEM, but decided to see what's available and other folks personal experience. I flush hydraulics once a year.

My comp is the first se version that has started to kickback on start occassionally, battery is good. I've been using nothing but formula + and one quart does it for me.

I'm down to one bike now, times are tough.  :drink:

My bikes all kickback once in a great while, maybe once or twice in 50 starts, no rhyme or reason, the rest of the time they start instantly, I'm not sure it is the Comp, over the years all my Harleys have "sneezed" occasionally, even the ones without Comps :nixweiss:
In my 40 years on Harleys... wait for it... "They all do that" LOL

My Clutch has a perfect "motor cops would love it" friction zone, a lot of the competitors use this Alto Kit, albeit with a cable clutch...

The Kit that Sadunbar posted is interesting to me as it is not a "+1" Kit (less potential for viscous coupling drag), the Alto is a "+1", as are most of the others...

A tidbit of info;
Alto manufactures plates for a lot of other companies,
Evolution Industries manufactures Baskets for a lot of other companies,
AIM manufactures Lockups for just about everybody, including SE.
