117ci road trip update
« on: June 17, 2016, 01:06:02 PM »

in the middle of a 2000 mile trip. Temps 95-100 air temp 100-105, speeds 75-80 running 2 up loaded avg mpg 37.7 have saw over 40 but that's the average on tanks so far. No detonation to report but heat off the back head is higher than when at 110ci. The bikes performing flawlessly but would love to have some 70 degree days! Headed to New Orleans today & get back out before rush hour traffic & off to some local scenery in Hammond. I have no regrets with the drop in & I still recommed doing head work when doing this kit.

I'm only 1 mpg better under the same scenario :2vrolijk_21:

Sounds like all is playing well together, and is pretty well dialed in :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

IMHO all things considered, the 117 is hard to beat :bananarock:

Riding out of the French Quarter today I was stopped in traffic & removed the air baffles ( designed to reduce buffering) it really helped ease the heat off my right leg. I didn't notice any increase air buffering or any other adverse effect. The temps reaced 105 today & air temps near 110. I had one time the auto cyl kill tried to kick in sitting in traffic but stock bikes died or lost a cyl much quicker than mine. Got on the throttle hard fully loaded & nearly back flipped with the wife on the back. Smooth throttle control is a must with the added TQ & HP!

I generally don't break 40 mpg on mine...usually between 35 and 38.

Part of that could be that a lot of my riding is commuter city/suburban stop and go and the other part may just be the fuel needed to mix with 117 ci of air.

I'm not disappointed but I would have liked a bike that could squeeze 40+mpg out of a tak.

MPG can be from more than one thing.. But Most of the customers tell me that 39-42 is what they get.. Some a bit less if the build is new.. I do think that is directly related to the right hand though   :D

My 124 will get 42 on the 65 MPH roads and 38-39 at 75 if I push 80 + it drops a bit.. But its not un common for me to see triple digits on those same rides..

The only issues I had was my battery decided to take a crap in Gulfport but thanks to some awesome friends we got it going & replaced that night when we got back to Hammond,LA. It was 5 years old & gave no warning it was about to die.

Heading out on a five year old battery is a bit like saying out loud "oh, I'll never have a flat tire."  Just an automatic jinx.   :huepfenlol2:

I thought I had replaced it but it was the wife mates who got it!  That's the best life I've ever got out of a HD battery but I keep both bikes & RZR hooked up to a battery tender when not in use.
