My ESP is expiring and looking for good price on renewal
« on: June 21, 2016, 07:02:09 PM »

My ESP is expiring and I am looking for anyone that knows a dealer that will give a good deal on a renewal.   I have been quotes prices for 2yr and 3yr without the tire & wheel that vary as much as 30%.  The bike is a 2012 FLHXSE3 and has 12,xxx miles stock except for pipes, tune, and fan assist oil cooler.   What is a good price for the Harley ESP for either 2 or 3 year??

Please feel free to PM if you want to.

Chains ,   I see you are in Florida but on the bottom of the sheet it says something about can not be sold out if Wisconsin.  What gives?  It say no shipping or sales applicable out side of Wisconsin.

Kutter is now Broadtracker HD and Jim Palmer is there sales rep for extended service plans.  As HD would now longer allow dealerships to sell extended service plans outside of their dealership area Jim is now selling www.DiscountESP.Com
I do not presently have a ESP as my bikes are new however I did go through Jim for my 2010 CVO Ultra.  He was excellent to deal with and everything was done by email and phone.  He beat other quotes by a long shot.  I used the ESP here in Canada for a new compensator with no issue at the dealership.

I also purchase one through Jim. Had no need to use it yet!

As others stated just contact Jim and his gal Kathy will set you right up. Not sure what the note meant about no sales out of Wisconsin. They were great to work with and even timed theirs to start the day my MOCO esp ran out so there was no overlap in coverage. I figured it was a steal compared to MOCO

So this is good in Canada? That would give other Canadians options.

I assume what it's supposed to say is " No shipping or sales tax applicable, outside of Wisconsin."  Doesn't make sense anyway, since when does anyone charge shipping on a service contract.  I'd guess that disclaimer was automatically added and is normally used for online parts sales or other dealership sales.

As Fred mentioned, Harley clamped down on dealers selling the Harley endorsed ESP outside of their market areas, so Jim Palmer started selling similar service contracts from other companies.  If you aren't hung up on having a genuine Harley endorsed ESP (service contract), most of them cover the same things and have the same kinds of limits and exclusions.  If you just have to have the Harley endorsed product from CNA, then you will be limited to the dealers in your market area and the net effect of that change is less price competition.  Harley wants everyone to pay full inflated prices for everything, even though any discounts a dealer offers don't change the amount they pay H-D by even a penny.  Protecting the brand is the BS they use when trying to justify their attempts to eliminate discounting.

I would really like to know how much money the MoCo makes off people that are afraid to use their product without a "Plan". It must be substantial. Been riding about 55 yrs and have NEVER purchased one! Take care of the equipment and it will be OK.

I'm sure the profit to the dealers and the MoCo has been huge.  In recent years however, CNA is probably wishing they had jacked the prices of the coverage way up, or had come up with a way to shift more of the cost of repairs back to H-D.  As Harley's quality and reliability have taken a big dive, repair costs for the ESP company have skyrocketed.  That's what drove them to start questioning all expensive repairs and sending reps out to find ways to avoid paying those claims.

I'm one of those people who never buy an ESP (service contract) on anything I buy.  I tried to sit down and figure out just how many tens of thousands of dollars I've saved with that approach, but after I figured I'd probably saved enough to buy at least a new bike or small car, I got tired of trying to remember all that stuff.  If chit happens, I take the money from the pile I've saved on ESP's over the years and fix whatever broke.

Some folks like Boatman have obviously made out pretty well with the ESP, considering he has had three engine failures since the 110 came out if I remember correctly.  But if you set aside the individual examples and just look at overall statistics, the vast majority never get their money's worth from any kind of ESP.  Those folks are the ones paying for the repairs for the other guys plus putting all those profits in the pockets of the dealers, the MoCo, and CNA.

The ESP covers more than just parts. I had a blowout a few years back and the closest HD (about 140 miles away) was already closed. ESP covered the hotel room and $250 of the tow.

while that is true tom, I wouldn't spring for the esp, for that reason only.  I have that same trip interruption on my auto insurance policy, that will cover towing, hotel stays, and food.  and it's only $22 per year.

My original purchase through Jim (dollar was par at the time) was the Harley plan and it was good for North America and I did use it in Canada for a new compensator on my 2010.  A simple email or call to Jim would answer your question if his new company is North American but my guess would be it is.  Let us know if you do contact him and the answer.  Only issue we have is the premium of the American dollar so you would have to do the math better the Harley local ESP and Jims with the American dollar cost.

I'm not sure i get this? Are you saying that the Harley ESP plan is only good in your "Market Area"? Meaning if i break down outside my market area( whatever that is)i have no coverage ?
