I understand, my body is revolting these days on the modified CVORG. Just wondering if the new SG would help or do I need a true ultra? By the way I thought we were going to hook up for breakfast or lunch one SAT?

BigLew

Mike,
The SG will be an improvement (in comfort) over the Orange Monster, the increased travel of the Ultra suspension will be an improvement over the SG...

Bat or Shark, the lowers are the biggest improvement in comfort...

Yeah I remember him telling me that, I guess the question is why?

BigLew
The suspension on the Ultra is the big difference.  The lowered suspension on the SG and RGC is both stiffer to begin with, and has less travel.  So it is less comfortable at any time.  Of course, you could switch out the SG/RGC (lowered) shocks for the longer shocks of an Ultra and really improve the ride.

A secondary item could be the seat on the Ultra, but like the choice of bat or shark, that's an individual preference.

You might try riding an SG and an Ultra back-to-back.  I found it to be a huge difference.

Besides the fact that at anything over parking lot speeds, certainly residential streets, your headlight never moves far enough off
center to notice, and technically, due to countersteering, moves the WRONG way, so with the fixed faring the headlights are actually closer to pointing
in the correct direction at speed.

I think the headlamps following is a strange comment. Above 2mph when do you turn the handlebars enough off center to affect the aim of the headlamp. I hear this alot but just shake my head, have a buddy who thinks it would be unsafe in his neck of the woods to ride after dark on a Road Glide, but his car is OK with fixed headlamps and the roads are 55mph roads, WHEN do you turn the forks at 55 to change center? Never - just a comment that has no merit.

JC gave up riding because his SG hurt his back so much. He is now very happy on his Ultra.
I really think JC's pain level riding was due to the factory lowered Street Glides he had been riding for years. JC is a tall guy and when your knees are higher than your hips and you have had previous injuries with both I truly believe it will cause more pain issues. I remember how happy he was when he rode one of Andy's standard Ultra's with a more forgiving suspension and seat the pain level wasn't such a problem anymore. Nice to see him riding again and enjoying being back in the saddle. :2vrolijk_21:

My new Outback's headlights turn with the steering. It really is not noticeable unless you are looking for it and paying attention.

The headlights on my truck and car light up much more of the road way and especially peripherally.  No comparison to motorcycle headlights even with the driving lights.

Have you ever been up in the mountains (or out in the desert even) where it's so damn dark you can't see your hands in front of your face and you're looking to turn into a driveway (or a u-turn) that you can barely see when your headlight does turn with the turn of your handlebars (has nothing to do with 55 mph.....not sure where that came from?)?   Thus, apples and oranges.  :nixweiss:

I'm thinkin maybe city folks haven't experienced that or at least not much.  But being from Sacramento and right at the foot the of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, I've experienced it many times.....and I've rode with Road Glide owners that have complained about that very problem.  Talk to the guys that own both that have spent a lot of time in the  mountains.....I have.

I shared this exact same thought with him, Terry.  Never thought the particular model would make that much difference but it obviously has.  Big Lew and I have rode together in those same Sierra Nevada mountains that I mentioned in my post above.   :2vrolijk_21:

I bought the serg ultra this year. .  The ride is so much better than the Sesg3 I came off of. . I added a windvest shield when I bought it and couldn't be happier. .  Rides so smooth and handles great. . I never thought I would want a fixed fairing bike, until I tried this. . I'm sure the new suspension helps..  But in the wind it's great. . And at high speeds. .  Can't beat the comfort. . Stuart.
