Horn cover broke...
« on: June 24, 2016, 08:56:26 PM »

Noticed this morning that my horn was hanging. I pulled on it I saw the top screw was missing and the bottom part of the bracket was snapped off. When I called the dealership he said a few other people had the same issue and the parts were on back order. He thought Harley might be making a new part because of a defect. Anyone else have this problem?

Mine broke a couple of years ago while my wife and I were traveling. The Stealership had taken the horn off and put it back on while installing some cooling fans for me. One afternoon while on a trip, I noticed that one of the screws that holds the horn/cover on was missing. I thought about going to a hardware or auto parts store and getting another screw, but then I heard dinner and a margarita calling my name... The next day during our trip, the cover broke off and left the horn hanging by the wires.

I think it's a good idea to keep an eye on those two screws/bolts and make sure they don't come loose. My horn cover only uses a couple of those flat sheet-metal nut things, so Loctite probably wouldn't work in this situation. I have thought about getting some slightly longer screws and thin nuts that I could Loctite, but haven't gotten around to doing anything about it yet... Probably the next time it breaks, I'll remember that I need to do that!  ???

The dealership is fixing it but I thought it was kind of strange that they use those metal tab nuts so hold that on as much as it shakes. I don't even like the bell cover so I ordered the Harley air wing cover.
