pro street shock adj. ??

on my 2016 pro street breakout  shock adj., getting hard on the back, lol...need a softer ride,... i know there set for a 180 rider , i'm 220lbs  i want a softer rode so i would turn the shock with my "harley shock tool expander wrench", in clockwise for a softer ride,... or out  counter clockwise, for a softer ride  thanks all,? :nixweiss:

Do you have the shop manual for the bike?  If not, I suggest you get one.  The rear suspension of a Softail is unlike anything else you've probably dealt with, and it requires different methods for adjustment.  There should be a chart by H-D somewhere in the manual that gives you rule of thumb adjustments based on your weight.  And turning the adjuster plates counter-clockwise does increase the preload to compensate for higher rider weight.  I wouldn't call it softer, all it does is raise the rear of the bike so the shocks have sufficient jounce travel to absorb bumps.  When the preload is set for someone much lighter in weight and a heavier person rides the bike, the rear suspension sags more and thus there is little travel left to absorb bumps.  The principle is the same as a bike with conventional rear suspension, the adjustment process is different and counterintuitive.

thanks , jerry,  i'v been googling and reading on it , it,  i turned them clockwise one full turn and it does ride better , raised the bike about half to one in. it was better, i weigh 230 dressed , and that one eighty  ,setting was getting rough, it was after too,...lol  :huepfenlol2:
