-What types of passing / driving lamps are you using?
« on: July 03, 2016, 10:35:33 AM »

Hi all,

I've seen the Clearwater brand...wow, pricey

Any others out there you're using that you've been happy with??

Looking for more light when on 'low beam'...thanks!

What model bike do you want to install them on? What are your thoughts on visibility , that is are you looking for improved vision for you or are you trying to be more visible to oncoming traffic?
If improving safety by making your bike more visible to others is important you should look at Motolights. They are expensive but have a lifetime warranty on bulbs and their customer service is great. Many police departments use them. The light given off by them with caliper mounting will move from side to side if you turn the front forks and they move some up and down when you hit bumpy pavement. The mounting location helps in creating a large triangle of light that doesn't merge together like mounting lights close to the headlight. It makes it easier for others to gauge your distance to them.

Even though this thread is older check it out for photos and others opinions on the Motolights. Also they used to give discounts for site members and first responders etc.

I don't know if this is applicable anymore but you used to be able to razor-knife the boot off and replace the factory bulb with a Philips H7. Plug & play, dirt cheap, and a bunch of different options on em.

I put the HD led fog lamps on my engine guard made huge differance on my 14 serk for night and to keeps me more visible to the 4 wheelers in the day.they are not cheap but my life is worth the $400 some might not agree but who cares what others think. Also running the HD led's on guards of my '15 CVO RGU. My impression is they are not as bright as some other aftermarket but do get you noticed. Biggest issue I had was the install was so piecemealed from HD selling light, mount, Aux switch and connector harness all separate. Seemed to be a lot of unknowns with the parts counter making wiring match my CVO connections.

Thanks Ron, in hindsight would you go that route again or another brand?

Probably just because I did not want the lights on the brake mounts or up on the fairing signals.  I like the HD guard mounts in front of lowers.  Did not hurt that I had several gift certificates for HD and my new bike discount is still in effect.  I do think with the current state of led technology they could use a higher lumen light and do a better job of coordinating the entire install system.  That said I do like the light output I've seen from the Motolights and Clearwater.
