Stereo Speakers Cutting Out
« on: July 08, 2016, 08:54:43 PM »

Having trouble with speakers cutting out.  Happens periodically sometimes out of the garage and others times hours into a ride.  Happens only to speakers when speaker switch is in top or middle position – not bottom (full headset position).  Headset does not cut out at all regardless of what position the speaker switch is in.  Can get the speakers to immediately work again by moving speaker switch to a new position.  Dealer wanted to replace speaker switch with no guarantee that would fix problem.  A friend had similar problem and they replaced entire radio.  Saw some mention of a plug coming loose to amp by tour pack.   Would a loose plug only affect the speaker and not the headset?  Any other help?

This is the beginning of the end for that radio.  It's a well-known problem with these units.  Many people have had 2 or 3 replaced under factory warranty.  When mine went out, the headset connection kept working; only the speakers quit.  One explanation we've gotten is that the circuit board cracks, but I don't know that for sure.

If your bike is still under warranty, it's cheaper to let HD fix it.  If not under warranty, Iron Cross Audio has a much better deal on fixing the radio, and they're a vendor on here, so you get a discount.  This will get you to their profile page:

Kinda thought that might be the case.  No longer under warranty.  Would like to keep CVO all stock but will check out Irnon Cross.  Thanks for the info.
