15 16 TPMS
« on: July 13, 2016, 03:32:49 PM »

Has anyone had any problems with the TPMS system on the new bikes
I have a buddy out on the road with a new  16 CVO RGU TPMS told him he needed air in the rear tire so he aired up the tire but now is not getting a reading from the back wheel. They were up on Beartooth pass in 33 degrees and sleet for 45 miles.

Mine rear one is not working and only have 300 miles on bike.
Took to dealer and they read codes and can't find anything on  it.
They want me to drop off and leave with them for a couple of days,
but I just haven't had time to drop off yet.

If he wants to take a ride to my shop I can see if the sensors are sending a signal with my TPMS scanner.
Sometimes clearing a TPMS code needs to be performed before relearn can be done. Battery should be good for 6 + years.
Low Temp, weak battery can cause no sensor signal.
I know the bike is new but have him put hot water over the valve stem
To see if will wake the sensor up. May have to ride for 10 minutes after warming the rim for signal establishment.

Thanks for the offer Wingman but I don't think they will make it that far.
I checked with him again yesterday and still no reading and they are having a lot warmer weather so I guess I will tell him to stop by dealer see what they can find. I think he will  just wait till he gets back to VA
Just for my own info can the TPMS system be reset by pulling the fuse or disconnecting  the battery I know that it would not do anything for the sensor. Thanks again
UPDATE

Well just spoke to him on the phone He is in Green River WY at the dealer and they said it is not sending the signal and like normal they do not have a replacement part also told him his tire was down to 30# so they pulled wheel put in water and found 3 places where air is leaking thru
tire can not see hole or nails or any reason for leak they are replacing the tire. Glad he stopped at the dealer may have been big trouble on the way home.

There's a silver lining here--at least the TPMS problems got him to check the tire and find out about the leaks.  No telling what that tire was going to do on his return ride.
