Need help with slip-ons with Rinehart headers
« on: July 16, 2016, 08:15:47 AM »

I have Rinehart headers, with 3" Rinehart slip-ons, I recently purchased the V&H 450's, didn't workout for me, the inlet on the Rinehart header is 2" whereas the V&H is 1-3/4"
returned the V&H, my bike is sitting in the garage without any pipes, looking for a 4 or 4.5 " dual pipes, looking for a brand and part number, I sent Rinehart an email last week explaining my situation and asked for a part number for the 4" typical no answer, looking for solution for my issue, and I'm looking for comments for a solution.
My I.D of the Rinehart header is 1.90" the O.D. for my 3" Rinehart is 2.0" looking for a 2.0 on the 4" pipe.

I'm not aware of many mufflers with a 2" diameter inlet.  That was one of the severe drawbacks to the old Rinehart True Duals, since they used a nonstandard head pipe diameter.  There was a Bub 7 Stealth muffler in the size you seek some time ago, but I have no idea if those even exist anymore.  Your best bet is going to be to call Rinehart and talk to them.  If they can't help and you are determined to use a 4" muffler, you can always try a custom pipe bender and see if he can expand the inlet on a regular muffler.  It can be done with the right equipment and know-how, but I'd hate to ruin a set of new mufflers if it didn't work out.

It might be time to scrap the Rineharts altogether and find a different system.

I am sure you can make a sleeve or a muffler shop can. Than you could
use the muffler you want

My issue is I've spent the money on Rinehart true duals, have the 3-1/2" now don't want to spent the next paycheck on a whole exhaust system. It appears Rinehart has a propitiatory exhaust system by using the 2" inlet with their system, here is my question, it appears all manufacturers have a 1-3/4" inlet, which is seems to be the industry standard since that is what Harley puts on their exhaust manifold, several aftermarket manufactures use the same 1-3/4" header pipes, I just want a slip-on with the 2", and that's what I emailed Rinehart about, to get the 4" slip-on with the 2" inlet. That was the original post from me, I can't get a part number for the Rinehart 4" slip-on with the 2" inlet., and also I inquired about other manufactuers with the 2" inlet, appears I'm out of luck on the other manufactures and am stuck with Rinehart!

Find a used OE muffler and go to a muffler shop and have them use the speader inside the inlet to see if it will go to a 2 inch inlet.
See if they can make a sleeve. Might be a easy way to adapt than upgrade whole system.

When I look at Rinehart's web site listing for 2009 and later models I find Extreme True Duals, and they offer the option of ordering them with 3.5" or 4.0" mufflers.  Is that the system you purchased?  If so, they obviously make a 4.0" muffler to fit those pipes.

https://www.rinehartracing.com/shop/rinehart-xtreme-true-dual-exhaust-system-for-harley-davidson-touring-models/

They also offer the 3.5" or 4.0" option for the system designed for 20008 and earlier models.

Since I don't see the muffler part numbers listed separately, you will still need to contact them to get the numbers.  If you have your heart set on something other than Reinhart mufflers, however, I still think you will be hard pressed to find any of the other well known exhaust companies offering mufflers with a 2" inlet.  Good luck in your quest.

MGS Custom Exhaust makes a true dual system that has a stepped header pipe that goes to 2", so obviously their mufflers have 2' inlet. Their website does not say that they sell these mufflers separately. But having dealt with them before myself, I know that they are great to deal with and make an excellent product. Give them a call. 661-951-9866

Also Rinehart does make the 4" muffler that you want. Call them at (828) 350-7653.
