Interesting encounter yesterday
« on: July 17, 2016, 04:18:58 PM »

I was driving home from Omaha Ne yesterday evening when a crotch rocket passed me at about 10-15  over my speed which was 75-78.  As he went by I noticed a ring of white on his rear tire. I sped up and passed him and motioned him over.  It is good that he did not take me for a road rager and stopped.  I told him his tire was about to let loose and he said it was fine.  I told to push it a few feet and then tell me that.  He did and you should have seen the look on his face.  I thought he might have dropped a brick right then and there.  One part of the tire like well worn and cupped but the other part had cord hanging out and the rubber layers where separating. I would guess he would have never made it another 30 miles before complete failure.

As a biker I just can't sit by without at least trying to help.

We all like to think we would recognize a serious problem and jump in to prevent a bad outcome, but I'm sure many of us have fallen short at times when it came to actually doing it.  I commend you sir, and you can take pride in the fact that you most likely saved that rider from a serious crash at best, or a trip to the morgue.    Thank you.

I was afraid that I, God, or both were going to see him in the next 30 miles. I was not in the mood to see that chit,it had been a long day! I was afraid he might if thought I was a cager that was PO'd or in rage. Luckily he stopped. I had a friend have a complete rear tire failure on the interstate in heavy traffic, he was lucky to have gotten out of it alive, but his tire never got to cord before it went.   I always look at the rears tires of the bikes around me and try to speak up,  if they don't think it is an issue I make sure I am far far away.  I also look to see if my riding bubbies have their high beams on also. We are are already out there on the risk curve. Why tempt fate!

That's some scary chit there.  So glad you were able to get his attention and were willing to do so.  :2vrolijk_21:

Jerry, the some what funny thing was he said he only had about 3000 on that tire.  These crotch rocket types burn them up quickly.  His front was not showing cord but was cupped bad enough that he need to replace it also.

Good job John. Glad you were in the right place at the right time and decided to act. What is even more impressive was there was no mention if the riders involved were black or white. After reading all the crap over the weekend it was the first thing that impressed me after reading this story. Brothers and sisters we all bleed red. I hope we never reflect our society and it s hate for things of color. As a friend once shared with me about police work, Do not confuse my kindness for weakness! Peace
