rear wheel spacers 2001
« on: July 23, 2016, 03:48:04 PM »

My son has a 2001 cvo Roadglide. while taking off the rear wheel we kept track of which side the spacers go on, but there are  circular grooves on each one. does anyone know if the grooves go toward the bearings or the swingarm or does it even make a difference ? If someone could look at their bike and let me know I would greatly appreciate it, I like to put it together as soon as possible.
                                  Thanks

I was always under the impression that the grooves were just for identification purposes.  Does each spacer have the same number of grooves, or are they different?  I've seen spacers with different numbers of grooves, or none at all.

They can go in either way, one should be larger and needs to be on correct side. I use a sharpie and mark them L and R first time I take apart. Usually they stay readable for years

Thanks for your help. I marked them for left and right. The small one on the right side had one groove, and the left side, which was the bigger of the two had two grooves. At the last minute I looked at the front wheel, and the gooves were toward the outside so thats the way I put the rears in, and like some of you said, I really don't think it makes a difference.
       Once again Thanks Jonnierock
