1st CVO SG and need to learn all the features and controls
« on: July 25, 2016, 05:41:21 PM »

Hi guys,
I am no stranger to technology and motorcycles.  In fact I embrace it all.  I am picking up a CVO privately from out of state and when it arrives, I wanted to know is there any way to get one on one training on all the tech from the alarm system to the infotainment to all the controls, etc...?
I plan to go through the manual like I always do but I wasn't sure if my local Harley dealer would help me or blow me off because I didn't buy it from them.  Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Demetri

YouTube is a very good resource, also  http://boombox.harley-davidson.com/premium.html  for the radio.

It's a good way to learn what the attitude is of your local dealership.  If they want your future business then they'll be happy to do a walk through with you (takes about ten minutes).  If not, take it to your independant Harley shop and ask them to walk you through it....they'll be able to cover most of it.

The owners manual is your friend!  You can also order the repair manual from the dealership and the CVO addendum manual.

If any member of this forum lives close to you, I'm sure they'd be happy to help you out.

Thanks JCZ!  I actually am meeting up with someone I met on this forum tomorrow to see his license plate set up and he lives 20 minutes from me.  Great to meet new people that share a common interest.
I'm a pretty savvy tech guy but it's nice to have someone walk you through the shortcuts.

$.02:  There is no substitute for reading the manual.  Go to the Harley Owners Website and you can read / see the videos on the basics of the Boom Audio System.  If you have your VIN, you can read the owners' manual online.  You should receive with the bike, an owners' manual and a Boom Audio manual.  The best thing you can then do is put your bike on a battery tender and read through the Boom manual while sitting on the bike.  That way you can practice / apply what you're reading as you read.    :2vrolijk_21:   :2vrolijk_21:

I have all intentions of doing just that as I always read the manual and go through the bike, but there is more to the bike than just the infotainment system.  Some of the controls and their symbols can be confusing at first glance.

This was good info to start before my scoot arrives.  Ran the VIN on the site, opened up the online manual and just finished reading the whole thing, minus the boring stuff.  Overall got a much better sense of things.  Now I can just focus on the infotainment system which is much more involved...

Thanks!

After reading the online manual, it mentioned something about the Jiffy Stand (kickstand) with INTERLOCK.  This means if the stand is down and you go into gear, it will give you a message on the dash to notify you before you pull away.  Is this on the CVO SG?  Reason I ask, it said something about international models...

Just picked up my '16 RG CVO after owning an 11' RG CVO. The BIGGEST cheat I found was holding the "info" switch on the right hand controls will put screen in high contrast mode. Not sure about Street Glides, but on the Road Glides, daylight made screen unreadable.  I was pissed the first week as I could not see Navi screen in sunlight, but the high contrast mode fixed that issue for me. Also, no need to turn on bike if you are just playing with the Boom audio, just have key fob in pocket and hold the trigger on left hand controls and bike with start in acc mode. Thought that was cool too, no headlight, no engine on, pretty slick!

I knew about the accessory mode, but didn't know about the high contrast mode.  Great info!

That is a requirement in Britain and some other countries, but not in the USA.  So a domestic model doesn't have a jiffy stand switch.  Over here we just go by that scraping sound as the stand drags on the pavement.  Easier and cheaper than adding switches and wiring and displays.

Screen color or resolution is covered in the infotainment manual as is the accessory button in the regular manual. Not trying to be a prick but I constantly see stuff on here that is in the manuals and the best one was today. Had a guy tell me what a piece of crap the radio was because you could not listen to any radio channel that the dealer didn't program??
When I asked if he got and read the manual with the bike which he had bought new, he made a stupid face and laughed like I was crazy.

You'll learn about the alarm mode when you go to dis-connect your battery.
