Thunder header or Thunderheader X Series
« on: July 28, 2016, 09:26:12 AM »

I have an 11 SEUC  I have installed the 117 drop in complete kit and Power Vision with AT.  I have a  Bub 7 headpipe and CFR mufflers.  Prior to the build I never really noticed the CFR torque dip but I certainly do now.  I do really like the sound but I can't live with the performance  I had thought maybe the larger displacement would counteract the issues. Thought wrong    So as I prefer to sound a bit different than the mainstream, I am considering going to a thunder header   I have always been pleased  with the sound and performance on my previous bikes. The question is Thunder Header or the new X series.  After a lot of reading I am concerned that the X series Thunder Header with larger head pipes will create the same poor backpressure problem I have with the CFRs   Any advice on which thunder header would complement my Build?

The Thunderheader has always been known for having a large torque dip.  I'd recommend a D&D Fatcat or Dragos pipe-- even a Propipe would be better than the Thunderheader in my honest opinion.

I have seen several of the X on the dyno on a bigger inch motors and each has shown a dip.   I can't say if it's cubes that matter but they have been on either 120r or 124s

Here is a 120R in a 09 touring with Xseries.  Compression set at 10.8.  Red line is the 266E and blue is 622-2.

The regular is going to be too small.  With 2 inch primaries, the X might be a bit large for a 117 but bending baffles will help.

Good luck

I concur that Jason did a good job with the tabs and tuning it.   I would say there probably was the typical dip at around 3000 that just slightly shows now about 3200, but Jason would have to comment on what it looked like to begin with.

It wasn't terrible.  I brought it up some.   It made the sheet look good to do it but it wasn't enough to that I think you would feel it.
