My FIRST upgrade..it's a HARLEY now !!
« on: February 11, 2007, 04:54:14 PM »

Hey all  ;D Just wanted to update you on my FIRST upgrade  ;)  I Put my new baffles in Friday night, and took it out yesterday afternoon for a few hours  :2vrolijk_21:  My friend made them with a Vance Hines baffle, and stepped it up to fit the stock muffler chamber. Other than a few "pops" here and there ( mostly on the downshift) It sounds fantastic, and runs great !!   8) Do any of you that have slip-ons experiance the same "pop" or "backfire" on the downshift, or when letting off the gas?
My next move will be a PC to get the fuel delivery correct, but  I checked the plugs aleast 6 times (thanks for the heads up!!) to make sure it wasn't "leaning out" they looked very clean every time I checked them  :)  Atleast now I KNOW I bought a HARLEY....that putting, quiet ride home was miserable the day I took it home from the showroom  :(   Now it sound's the way it should  :bananarock:   :2vrolijk_21:

Jack,
There is a ton of good info on this site to understand what modifying the exhaust does to your bike. I can get you started at best. Modifying your exhaust system probably has the single largest effect of any mod you can do to your combustion cycle. Decel popping is caused by having a less restrictive exhaust and can be further aggravated I believe by running too rich or too lean. You can make it better by tuning your bike. There is no sure fire cure, most people believe a mild case of decel popping is completely harmless. What you did by changing your baffle was to make your exhaust less restricted, reduce back pressure (possible loss of lowend torque) and your efi system isnt designed to deal efficiently with a change like this. Hope this helps.

Jack, I haven't noticed ANY backfiring from mine whatsoever, so, I can't help you there. Sounds like it needs a good tune. I know exactly what you mean about "Sounding like a Harley" It just ain't right! I don't want mine to sound like open pipes at all, BUT I do want it to sound like a Harley.
