2008 CVO Ultra Glide ABS Problem - light on all the time
« on: August 05, 2016, 12:10:23 PM »

THE PROBLEM WAS BROKEN WIRE AT THE STEERING NECK, COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS FIRST YEAR OF ABS

I have heard rumor that these first ABS bikes get problems from time to time.
My ABS is out and does not work, locked up on me on Sunday....yikes!!!!!
Any tips or how to fix this or trouble shoot it.
Thanks in advance.
I have a 2006 manual, but not a 2008.
Is there a manual posted anywhere? Can I post my 2006 some wheres for others to use?
Is there a facebook site for this group? usually you can post files up to facebook sites.
Thanks
Trev

You may want to take a look at this - Harley Trouble Codes and check to see if your bike has thrown any of those codes.

Thank you very much,
I had 4 codes all to do with the front sensor or low voltage to/from the front sensor.
I talked to a Harley tech and he mentioned that the 2008 has a broken wire problem at the steering neck.
I went home and followed the wire from the wheel back to the connector in the neck and did some voltage probing.
by using needles stuck into the wire from the abs unit, I found the ABS unit was putting out the 9 volts or so and as
I went along it continued up to under the tank, so I went from the other side and 4" up from the connector I found one of the
wires was broken under that wires insulation, so you could not see the break.
I guess they choose a bad wire type for the first year of ABS. I only have 16,000 miles.
I cut the wire , stripped a bit and soldered it back together and use shrink wrap and tape to put it back as new.
Went for a ride and everything works fine.
Thanks so much!
