CD input on radio and skipping
« on: February 12, 2007, 12:35:57 AM »

2001 FLTRSEI2 Apparently my input does not work on the front of my radio. Since it is a little older I am guessing that the 12CD  player in the trunk it taking the slot that this input would have had. Is there any way around this without losing the CD player?

My CD player is skipping at times for no apparent reason. Has anyone with the 12CD changer in the trunk had a similar problem?

Hogwander, I have the same bike and the location of the remote in the trunk is to close to the side and will bump and make it skip. I velcroed it on to the end and it worked fine. I have taken it out to mount an mp3 player and I have the same problem as you. Even with the cd player unhooked the mp3 won't work. I have been told to take the radio out and open it up and unhook the cd connection from inside and then I should have a port available for the mp3 player. I plan on doing this in the next week or so if I can get to it with all the other stuff that is going on now. (remodeling the kitchen) I'll report on this board if it works or not.

Thanks Ripp! I moved my remote and will try to ride this weekend to see if it works. I will try to burn some CD's with my Mp3 music to make it work for now. I found that the unit will not play a CDRW. I wil check back on your post on the upgrade.

You may also find the viscous dampners that minimize the vibrations the changer sees are going bad.  I changed all 4 on her SERG just before she sold it.  She said it made a big difference.  If you pull the cover off the changer and you see a white goo inside, that's the fluid out of the dampners.  I found a source for them.  PM me and I'll find it again for you.

I use an FM modulator, you can get some of them that plug into a standard lighter plug.  (installed mine in the tourpak)  Then just set the playlist and tune radio to one of the freqs that the modulator broadcasts and pull out the dated cd changer space hog.

Was Jim's thread rather than mine.  Though I've plagiarized his efforts to do it to a radio since then (thanks Jim!).  Take a look here (this kind of stuff was easier to find when we could store favorite threads).

Thanks to everyone for some great advice. I really do appreciate this kind of information to help me with this bike. I guess I have found some new friends on the internet and maybe I can ride some day with some in person.

hogwander,
Central Tx isn't that far from Hot Springs, Arkansas.  Why don't you plan on joining a bunch of us Sept 13-16 for the rally that's going on? (see this thread: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php/topic,10014.0.html )  BTW, you've got some great riding down in your neck of the woods too!!  I spent some time in San Angelo a few years back, great area to ride!

arcticdude- Thanks for the invite. I might be able to make that because it is close enough to this part of Texas for a short vacation. I have a tough time getting away from my job in the fall. I work as a principal and they just don't think I should ever be gone when school is in session. I might be sick a couple of days though :apple: This apple might keep the principal away from school long enough for some good riding.

hw,
I commend you on your service.  Anymore, that's got to be a pretty high stress job.  I'd certainly need several "mental health" days on a regular basis!

Well, I finally got to pull my radio out to see if I could unhook the cd player internally to except my mp3 player and it doesn't look like it's something I can do. I took it to my local HD dealer and they said they have never taken one apart to work on the inside. They suggested I take it to a place here called Audio Sound and they said they don't open them up either. They send them to the manufacturer to repair them.
I found the thread about moving the aux port to the back of the radio, but I don't think that will fix my problem either. I guess I will pull the mp3 player and sell it on ebay and buy an mp3 with an ear piece and keep it in my pocket.

When I relocated my remote the problem stopped on the skipping. I am with you (Ripp) on the mp3. It is just too much trouble to try to make it work with the current audio system. I will leave it in my pocket or just burn CD's with the music I want.I like the bike and don't want to make a problem.

So that's how you do it. I was always wondering how you guys were so dang fast at throwing up those oh-so-important threads that no one could ever find. I didn't know you could store favorite threads in the old software. That's pretty slick.

That was a handy tool.  I had about a dozen threads saved as "favorites" that were commonly requested or otherwise asked about.  Never had to search for a one of them.  Life was good then..... :huepfenlol2:
