rear shocks
« on: September 01, 2016, 07:36:42 AM »

is 40 pounds too much air to run in the rear shocks on a 2004 Electra glide? I know Harley says maximum says 35, but to keep from bottoming out on big bumps 40 is what I have to run. I am 260 lbs and the wife is 140 lbs. a buddy of mine runs 15 to 20 and he injured his passenger twice .

No it is not... If memory serves me correctly you can go up to 50lbs. However you should dump the stock shocks as they suck!!! They also are prone to leak down requiron7you to constantly check/add air.

My 2010 and 2014 are 50 PSI.  They both leaded down and would last about 2 to 3 weeks. I keep mine at 50.

I just got back today from a 2100 mile trip of the Michigan UP riding a 2009 street glide with the stock 12" HD air shocks with 2" of travel. It beat me and my passenger half to death and we ran 45#of air in the shocks.

I will be switching them out soon as the constant bottoming out takes all the fun out of a nice day of touring.

We had both bags full, the tour pack and a small light weight gym bag on the tour pack luggage rack. The shocks bleed down about 5# of air each day of riding.

I have been riding for 50 years and this is the worst pair of rear shocks that I have ever experienced. I realize that a street glide comes lowered and does not come with a tour pack option, but 2" of rear shock travel is not near enough.

Get that junk off your Bike!  Progressives, or Ohlins, will solve your problem.  I'd go as far as to say they're the only thing that will solve that problem.  You can adjust PSI all day long...won't fix it.  Junk.  If you're an aggressive rider when you're 1 up, in hard twisties, those pieces of chit will get you hurt, or worse.  Later--HUBBARD
