Ordered Kuryakyn Crusher Mufflers
« on: September 08, 2016, 04:26:40 PM »

The Trident tips- Part #491, as in the OG good ones!

Been hummin' and hawin' about an exhaust change for awhile. Recently pulled off my Rineharts and put my stock CVO mufflers with Fullsac 2.0" cores back on. Was too quiet for me, so I removed the baffle wrap material, which improved the volume but not the sound quality- I like a deeper sound.

Was considering going 2-1 (Dragula 2), but that would require another full custom dyno tune, which is $500 US and 6 hrs away.

Always read about the (original) Crushers being tops for performance and having a deep sound. I've only heard them once in person on a 110, and thought they were too quiet at idle. I'm only hoping that the sound will be quite a bit louder since I have the 113 with headwork, and I know the Fullsac's are louder now then they were when I was a stock 110.

Today was browsing the 'net, and saw Fuel Moto had a sale- $481.23 including shipping to NY! That's $60 cheaper than anywhere else. I also get the impression that these maybe discontinued soon from Kuryakyn, so I decided to go for it.

I'll try them out. I don't imagine it will change my tune much, but I will probably have a clean up tune done next spring anyhow if I decide to keep them on.

Fingers crossed that I like the sound. I know performance wise, these will be equal or maybe a bit better. If I don't like them, I can sell them locally and break even, since they cost so much more if purchased in Canada.

I can't wait to hear what you think of them!! What head pipe do you have? I have been on the fence myself... How long until you have them?

I have the Fullsac DX head pipe. Was tempted by your ad for the Dragula 2 and would have traded you my DX plus cash, but like I said, it would be $800 plus shipping for yours, then another $500 to re-tune.

Just ordered the Kury's, so will probably be in NY early next week, but I have to make time to drive down to pick them up, so will probably have them on the bike Friday next week.

You probably shouldn't even install the Tridents, it will only bring down their value, just package them up with your DX pipe and ship them to me  ;D

I have the older X-Pipe "B" and they say there isn't a big difference, but getting rid of the stock crushed crossover pipe has to help some. Look forward to hearing what you think of the Tridents.

So I picked them up today and installed them tonight.

Initial impressions-

The good:

They sound good under throttle, and have a nice sound when you decel, kind of like Dragos.

They look good and seem to be great quality.

The not as good:

They are a little quiet at idle for my liking. About as quiet as my 2" Fullsac cores when I had the baffle material/screens in them. That's an issue because having a nice aggressive idle sound is important to me.

Also, I'm a believer in loud pipes save lives (not looking to debate that because nobody will change my mind). Not obnoxious loud, but enough that people can hear you coming up beside them before you see you. Are these pipes loud enough for that? I don't know because they seem pretty quiet at cruise, but maybe I'll have a buddy or my indy mechanic take it for a ride as I drive behind so I can hear it for myself.

I only went for a 10 minute ride after the install so it's still way too early to tell- I'm just giving my initial impressions. I'm on days off now, and plan on going for a good ride tomorrow to get a better opinion. Plus, I imagine (hope) they may get louder in time, but I'm not sure about that because it is packed with stainless steel wool and I don't know if that breaks in over time to cause the pipes to get louder like mat baffle material does.

YMMV of course, but that is my opinion so far. This is coming from a guy who's favourite mufflers were Rineharts.

Was told Id lose bottom end with my 113 build. Already had another exhaust issue while dynotuning that cost me extra $$, so I went for the safe bet and put my Fullsac cored mufflers back on.

Keep in mind, I'm coming in late here...I see in your signature you have GMR build, it may be an obvious, but have you spoke with Steve @ GMR RE: exhaust set up? Builds can be a delicate selection in making all parts work together.

Yes he is one of the people that suggested I lose the Rineharts. Steve likes the DX and told me to put my Fullsac 2" back on. He also likes the Kury Crushers with the DX.

FullSac 2.0's & the Crushers are both a great choice, IMO
Crushers have a richer tone & little more volume than the OE CVO muffler.

Hope you have good ride today & you take a liking to the Crushers  :2vrolijk_21:

I'm sure they are much louder than the OE CVO muffler- maybe you are referring to the mellows?

Did 150 miles today. Don't know- wish they were louder at idle and cruise. The bike runs just as well and power seems the same. I guess that's because they are very close in flow to the Fullsac 2" mufflers.

I figure I'll run them for this year (about 2 more months of riding season), then decide what exhaust I want to run in spring, then go see my tuner for a clean up tune, and also hopefully get rid of my O2 sensor error.

A OE CVO muffler recored with Steves 2.0 CVO core still doesn't have the volume of the Crusher, muffler body creates the volume... in fact, Steves new muffler he came out with has 15% more volume than a OE CVO muffler using the same cores.

Loud...run a Fat Cat with a perforated big bore baffle...

My CVO cans with the Fullsac 2" cans without the screens/baffle material are definitely louder than the crushers. With the screens/baffle wrap, they are similarly loud.

I definitely have the regular crushers and not the mellows. I checked the baffles.

I dont like the D&D sound and am not at the point that I want a 2-1 yet. If I do it will be the Dragula 2.
