Kess Tech?
« on: September 11, 2016, 06:47:49 AM »

Anybody ever heard of Kess Tech mufflers? I'm thinking of getting a 2-1 from them, but don't know if I should pull the trigger or just wait until I get back to the states and am able to get a real set. The problem is living in Germany, the pipes have to be a certain db to pass inspection. I don't want to simply throw on some slip-ons. Granted, that would be the easy, short-term fix so that I can just switch them out come re-registration time. However, I want a full 2-1 system. The Kess Tech is sort of like the Jekyll and Hyde mufflers. Runs quiet (guaranteed to pass German insp) but at the push of a button you get a louder, more guttural sound. I have not be able to find any reviews and only a few videos that show about a 30 second clip of the sound difference. From the videos, the sound increase isn't all that much. What I really want to see is if my HP would go up or not. If the sound isn't much better, and there is no HP increase, I think I will holster this gun and wait until I get back to the states to get real pipes. However, if there is someone here that has some Kess Tech and can tell me if they work OK, then I may end up pulling the trigger. So, how about it? Anybody got some Kess Techs?

I went on their website and jumped to the "Configurator", put in H-D (EU), Touring, FLTRUSE, TC110, 2015-2016, ESM3, and the only option shown was for slip-on mufflers, no 2 into 1.  Have you verified they actually make a 2 into 1 for your bike?

I couldn't find a description of their 2 into 1 systems that mentioned anything about catalytic converters, but I'm going to guess any system they claim is legal would have to retain the cat to meet the emission requirements.  All they seem to talk about on the site is noise emissions, not air quality emissions.  Your bike has a catalytic converter in the headpipe collector.

Anyway, we do have some members around here from Germany so hopefully one or more of them can give you some feedback on the system.

IMHO you cannot base your opinion concerning "better sound" on some descriptions on an internetforum. There is no HP increase. Had them on CVO Deluxe 2014 which was purchased from HD dealer in Europe with 6k on the clock. That dealer had installed them. Asked specifically about HP increase and the answer was in the negative even though there was some tune done as well.

Thanks for the information. I think I am just going to wait until I get back to the states, or get a temp set of slip-ons.

Thanks, Jerry. Yeah, I went through the same thing when I first started researching for EU legal pipes. However, I just figured that even though the website doesn't have it, maybe a dealer would know how to get one set up. Who knows? I'm actually leaning towards not getting them anyway. Sounds like a waste of money. At least for me, since I would just be replacing them when I get back to the states anyway. Especially if they provide no extra HP.

Find out is a dealer over there is having an open house or rally anytime soon.  The company usually has a display and you can here them.  I know I saw them at all the open houses.

Well, i have the Kess-Tech esm2 Slip-on. The sound is deep. In my opinion it´s the best you can get with TüV. You have one switch on the handlebar so you can choose between open and closed. Both is legal because the esm2 modul close the muffler between 50-70.  Also you have a "maintenance mode switch" installed mostly near your horn to open the mufflers all the time (not legal) :bananarock:
With the new esm3 they are only closed when your speed is exactly 50 Km/h for a couple of seconds. And that´s legal in Germany.
But my Dealer said i have to dyno it with powervision because the engine runs much leaner than stock.
After dyno it pulls 94 HP with 151 Nm tq. And the Engine ran much smoother and cooler even after a hard run on the german Autobahn at full throttle.

Hi guys, I have a 2009 FatBob, and I have the Kesstechs. Just on/off since my back is old. Could anyone tell me how to set it up so the valves won't close between 50 and 80km/h? I read that there is a Maintenance Mode or something like that, but no idea how to do it. I appreciate your help.
Thanks,
