Well my third CVO 110 in 8 years just developed that Tick Tick noise. Just like my previous bike the valve train noise was present but not that loud tick tick noise until about 5,500 miles and over the corse of just 100 miles it's as loud as my previous bikes. I don't understand what could rapidly change to cause this. Any help would be appreciated. On my last bike I tried different oils and even changed lifters but neither helped. On this bike I was happy not hearing it and then while riding it just started.

I'm guessing you had the usual Harley valve train noise and now it appears to be getting louder the past 100 miles. My story I brought my to the dealer complaining of lifter noise, the tech took it for a ride and told me it was pinging due to the ambient temperature and documented such along with no mechanical issues, which I knew was incorrect and was charged 62.50. Went home dumped the oil, the oil plug looked like a Chia Pet with all the metal on it, I had to wipe it 3 times with a shop rag to find the magnet. Called the Dealership to report my findings and was told by the Service Manager they stand behind the techs assessment. Three weeks later, bike towed into dealership, lifter exploded in the bottom of engine case. ESP is covering the engine rebuild cost in excess of 5900.00.

Mine was ticking loudly at the beginning, can you check the oil plug for metal?

There is metal on the drain plug magnet. But noise did suddenly start and is quite loud. I will check into the product posted.

Are you under warranty or ESP, if so inform your local dealer of the facts; noise has increased the last 100 miles and excessive metal is on the magnetic plug. Now if he doesn't believe the noise in itself is enough justification for a claim he can cut the oil filter open to inspect for more metal if he is worth being a wrench at all. Just my opinion, especially after my recent experience.

If the problem started suddenly, I think I'd be more worried about the things that can and do fail suddenly.  Those rocker shaft locks are not in that category.

Too many people have experienced issues with lifters on the 110's to not consider them at the top of the suspect list.  Listen to FLTRCVO, he's giving you some good advice.

don't get me wrong, i'm not advocating ignoring unusual noise for rocker bushings.  but, after he gets everything ruled out/repaired/replaced, the rockouts will make it even quieter.  they made a huge difference on mine.

If they have to replace  lifters, which I hope they do  for your sake. Go  with  Premium S&S Lifters / no limiters  many of the  sharp builders on here swear by them and I've not heard of a failure. Put them in my last bike, nice and quiet.  Dealer can order them through Drag  Specialties, that's where they get most of their aftermarket stuff , pipes etc: anyway. Instead of the SE junk, just my .002..Greg

Most of the dealers if they do any kind of motor work should have the S&S Premium Lifters in stock that Texas 103 is referring to.
However, if you are under warranty and or have an ESP you may have to decide on the installation of a non Harley Lifter possibly voiding the remainder of the warranty and or ESP unless the dealer will really work with you regarding these possible issue.

This sound similar to what happened to me.  Was on my way to Sturgis this year when it started to tic.  Stop at Big Barn HD in Des Moines IA.  The dealership felt there was an issue but could not get approval from HD to open the engine for inspection under warranty, since the 110s are know for engine noise.

The dealership had the parts in stock and was willing to start working on it immediately, so I gave them approval to replace the lifters.

Once they got into it they found that the front exhaust lifter was beginning to fail.....so lifters and cams replaced under warranty.

CAT, was your bike under warranty or the ESP at the time of the repair? Because, I was under the belief all motor issue under warranty were to be crated up and replaced with a new crate motor with your VIN as they have done in the past.

The repairs were done under warranty. I guess it is probable that some metal from the failing lifter and chaffed cam got into the motot.  But after viewing the parts and seeing no metal on the oil plug, I felt it was minimal.

Been 6000 miles since and so far all good.

So the MOCO was content to send you down the road to experience catastrophic failure and potentially strand you on the highway. 

And yet they somehow still sell new motorcycles...
