I was offered $32,000 cash for my CVO Street Glide, and I was thinking about selling it because the dealer was going to give $26,500 on trade.  Then a friend of mine/my barber got killed on Sunday because a 90 year old turned in front of him!  I took it as a sign....so the bike is sold.  I have 2 boys under 3, he had to boys in high school...now they don't have a dad.  The scary thing is, I was at the intersection he got hit at about 2 minutes before him.

Now....I'm gonna wait, I really miss it, I'll buy another one this winter.

Nicky don't take this as being harsh, just being blunt.... You have bought and sold several bikes since joining the site (for several reasons... and not that there is anything wrong w/that), however in this instance you are selling (stop riding) because of the loss of your friend/barber (of which I offer my sincere condolences to you, his family & friends)... But what do you think is going to change to make you buy another bike over the winter? If you are getting rid of the bike because of your concern of your kids being w/o a Dad then that concern will remain. Our time on this earth is limited, you have to do what is right for you in your family, however don't contradict yourself by saying you're stop riding (getting rid of your bike) for the concern of your kids not having a Dad and in the same post say you will buy another this winter... JMHO but that doesn't make good sense.

I got offered a good price at the end of the season.  If I want another one, i can, but atleast I can be without to see if I want to get another.  The dad concern has always been there....it just hit very close to home....it's all in the timing.

Nicky, selling your bike for the right amount of money is a good thing. Do take your time and think about what is best for you and your family. Down the road, when your kids are older, if you still have the desire to ride then jump in with both feet. I know about getting off the bike as I did it for 22  years. Good luck on whatever you decide.

I'd bet the majority of us here have grand kids older than your sons, so our perspective may differ. However many of us have been in your shoes and have made similar decisions. They are just bikes, bikes will always be around, and your future decisions may bring you back, or in an entirely different direction.

I've had Harleys for 8 or 9 years.  Now that I have 2 kids, there is less and less time to ride.  So far, this year, a co workers dad got ran off the road and was in a coma, a friend's cousin t boned a car and died, my barber died....I need to move further out to enjoy a bike, but for now, I'm gonna let the $32k sit and grow.

It's tough because I like riding....and I love the sound, the smell....but right now, I'm gonna do what I feel is right.  With all of the EPA stuff, Harleys will probably electric in a few years and I won't want one!

Similar situation here, was partly finances, partly wanting to spend more time with the kids when young since was traveling extensively.  Went from "other brand metrics" to a Harley after no bike for 22 years - 1979-2001.  Rode during that time on friend's bikes but did not get another one myself until they were grown.  Each of us has a different road we travel, sometimes we ride that road on a bike & sometimes we do not.  Best of luck Nicky and very sorry to read about your friend.  Condolences.

Sorry to hear about your barber........Make whatever decision you feel is right for you right now. You can always buy another one.....

Had a good friend killed in a company vehicle in 1999.  Had to do the investigation....even though it wasn't a bike accident, it got to me...sold my bike and didn't ride for a couple years.  The fear dissipated and the urge to ride grew again. 
Doesn't happen to all folks but if it's in your blood, it's not likely to every leave.  I've done a lot of riding since returning to the saddle with a few more Iron Butt rides in there for good measure.

A different deal but the ride home from Sturgis 1997 was a WET one...almost all 1,458 miles with the first 580 all storms/rain.  Got to Albert Lea, MN that first night and I commented that a day like this one will:
A) Make you want to sell it when you get home or B) Be a day to add to your continuing ride experiences.
I'm the only one still riding after that day out of 5 bikes with three of them not getting on it again when they got home...sold as quick as they could.

I say all of that to say this:  Things will effect each individual differently.  This may be the end of your riding, Nicky.  It may not...give it some time and let the Lord lead you in the path you should go.

I hate the rider down threads, i will generally pass on reading them for a day or two.

Then i think well, maybe i can learn something and i'll read them, generally pretty disheartening, but does happen, too frequently.

I have ridden motorcycles while and since high school (on and off), played all sports in high school.

I remember a guy in our band said man aren't you afraid you'll get hurt, even break a finger, and no guitar playing for awhile or ever.

When your young and basically not responsible for anything but yourself, your young and do what you feel like without much care or concern.

I never gave getting hurt playing football or ridding a bike a second thought and by the Grace of God i didn't, i just had fun.

I stated on another thread, i think about ridding at night, that when i was in flight school in the 60's, on my way to Nam, i rode from Ft Rucker to PC every Friday night, getting into PC about 10:30 or 11 pm and never thought twice about the country night ride with pretty inadequate lighting.  Hell i didn't even think i had inadequate lighting.

It's a different story today, a different world, sorry ass drivers all around, then the texter's, the total dip chits, etc.

I do think about it today, and with all the work i do around this place we have in the country, the 30 acres, my wife would be lost without me, not just dying, but if i got Fd'up.

My Granddaughter, 4 years old, we have a special bond, i couldn't bear loosing that.

From reading all the threads about this and that, i know that there are many riders on this and the Rushmore Forum that always have the thought that they could go down do to many things and they think safety, they are careful, situationally aware but still concerned..  The risk is still ever present so:

Enjoy those kids, the family is the priority and  i get it and i totally support your decision, when your ready, if ever again, you'll find your way back.

PS: Your bike was definitely worth the 32K., i remember when you first posted a picture on Screaming Eagle area of the HD forum, i said damn what a bike, that picture cost me about 35K
