Before purchasing my 16 CVO limited a month ago I went to 4 dealers.
Dealer 1 was still asking $2,000 over sticker
Dealer 2 was still asking sticker
Dealer 3 I never heard back from
Dealer 4 knocked $6,000 off of sticker and dropped the set up fee.

I purchased from dealer #4

Used to be dealer cost was about 80% of msrp.  They need some profit to pay the admin costs and keep the doors open.  I've heard several dealers in recent years clearing out prior year model CVO's for several thousand under retail price.  Most I've heard of doing this was for customers that have a prior relationship with that dealer.

Bought my 16 CVO Limited for roughly $7,000 savings. It was the last one my dealer had.

I'm sure bikes are like cars where there is dealer $$ under the invoice the sales staff usually doesn't get to use. ;)

Got my '16 CVO in Dec of '15 for 10% off sticker.

The margin is there, depends on how much they need for sales or to make the next level of bonus.

Contrary to what most HD owners believe, it actually pays to be nice to the people at the dealership, too.

The unfortunate fact of the matter is in most cases, if you don't pay what's on the sticker, someone will come along with cash and do it eventually.

Bought my 2016 CVO  Road Glide, in RED of course..that is the faster color ..for $36,800 BUT they gave me about + 4,000 above book for my 2011. I got $16,000 for that bike with 74,000 on the clock. Think low book on the bike was $12-$13  plus a .99 interest rate. Just couldn't say no...

Harley has a 1.99 interest rate  on the '16 CVO's and my dealer said he bought the rate down to .99 . I'll ride it for a year or two and If I just cant stand it when they come out with an " Eight Ball" CVO RG, I might bite

I was recently on the dealer site for Texarkana Harley, and they have 107 new 2016's in stock, including at least 6-8 CVO's.  I'm wondering if folks are wanting the new '17s with the Milwaukee 8 in them.  If that's true, then I would suspect that dealers may be more inclined to deal with you on a "residual" 2016.  I'd keep shopping around.

If the dealer sold bike at msrp, there is at least a $8,000 profit on CVO's for the dealer. Of course, that's not counting freight, setup, tags, tax, etc.

It sounds like the Limited and Roadglides did not sell out but the 2016 Street Glides did. Although I think the new Milwaukee 8 is going to be a winner, I don't regret buying my Carbon Mist 2016 at all😄 I say buy a leftover 16 and put all the saved money into making it the way you want it😄 IE better speakers, bars, exhaust, tuner, engine upgrades. $7000 to $8000 buys a lot of goodies😄

Duke City Harley in Albuquerque has a few 2016 CVO's posted as manager specials with $5k off the MSRP. I imagine a serious buyer might be able to get even a bit more concession out of the deal. At a minimum I would bargain away any freight and set up charges. Also, make sure the doc fee is reasonable.

Noticed two '16 RGU's and a Limited at Renegade HD in Alexandria last weekend.  All three in two tone gray metallic.   Did not discuss price.
