10,000 mile service
« on: October 10, 2016, 01:24:14 PM »

Im coming up on 10,000 miles. How important is the 10K service. I was going to change the fluids & then take in and have other stuff checked out. Is it really necessary to do it of not.. Or just change oils & ride...

The 10K mile service is a major one.  So, I can't imagine why you would skip any of the procedures recommend.  The drive belt certainly needs attention at that service. I'm not sure which bike you are referring to. If it is your 2007, look at the attachment here:  Re: Maintenance Scheduler.

For newer bikes, see this thread:  Maintenance schedule spread sheet

Its basically an inspection, if you have a service manual you can probably do a much better job yourself, you dont have to do it all at once, get the check list and take your time if it takes three days spread out so what,  I usually check half the things on the list when I clean the bike up after a long ride,

I'll second what both long-time members have stated.  It's important to do and with the manual, it's fairly easy.

What is the list of Critical Fasteners?
If someone knows this list where did it come from?

They are listed in the Service Manual in the 1-XX section along with their respective torque settings.

The basic Touring Service Manual is part # 99483-15.  There are other parts manuals and CVO specific manuals but the main service manual covers most routine stuff.  When I need parts diagrams I usually go online to Ronnies HD at:

I changed all the fluids already this past weekend. I may just take & let dealer do rest to the 10K service. Said would only be like $160.00. Or i may not worry about it...

Does the RG have a grease fitting for the steering head bearings..

The 2009 FLTRSE3 does, but I know that doesn't help much regarding a 2015.

2014 and later do NOT have a grease zerk for the steering head.  I believe the service interval for the steering head bearings is 25,000 miles, and it requires removing the forks and bearings.
