Heated Grip suggestions needed and I have ??
« on: October 12, 2016, 11:02:13 PM »

Alright peeps,
Thinking of pulling the trigger and getting some heated grips on my 09' and SERG and the wife's 11' Krypto. I've been going thru all the threads looking for some info.  A lot of what I find is dealing with the newer models. Not sure if to go with the Harley or heat demons. I thought our bikes were already wired for the Harley grips.  I keep reading about a kit for cvo limited this and that but it just confuses me more and more.  Any info or advice as always is welcome.
Not getting turn on by anything the moco has produced lately, so bumped and rebuilt the engine last year. Just bought the Aquatic stereo (yet to be installed),  so plan on keeping it a while longer.  Let's Roll

Instalted on my  :bananarock:. The wiring an connector for right side grip should be there. Just have to plug in grip in end of TBW sensor. Left side you have to snake 2 sets of wires. One the 2 connects to the right grip an a 3 wire set that supplies power to the setup. +12 V, -12 V and a switch on /off +12 V to only allow the grips to operate when bike is on. You will need to buy the 3 wire connector and pins for the bike side.

Thanks Brad,  I'll have to practice the wiring on my wife's 11' Krypto,  still has stock bars much easier to run wires than my Yaffe bars. Let's Roll

Similar process but easier because you don't have to deal with the large Molex connectors.

Thanks for the input, I like easier a lot! Any idea, if  I can purchase a "kit" or heated grip parts from the `15 CVO Road Glide to  keep the stock look grips like that comes on my `15 S.E. Street Glide? Contacted one dealer and they just don`t know not having any experience with this modification.

I had local dealer put 13 CVO ultra heated grips on my 13 CVO king to keep stock look.

The same dealer just put 17 CVO limited heated grips on my 17 CVO street glide so it looks stock.  Pick it up tomorrow night.  There is no kit from what I was told, just ordered the 17 CVO limited grips.

I did the same thing on my 17. Definitely got to use them when I got caught in that huge storm out of Alaska when I picked up the bike (temps around 30 degrees) and they worked great

Now that I've got most of the snow shoveling done (til this weekend), gonna get on the heated grips. To maintain the stock look on the 11' Krypto what year of the limited grips would match it? Also do I need to buy the extra parts to complete the install. Thanks Let's  Roll

The 2011 CVO Ultra used the same style grips as the CVO Street Glide, except the Ultra had the heated version.  If you want to maintain the same style grip and she actually likes the feel of the stock grips, you could order the parts from the 2011 FLHTCUSE6.  The main components are listed below in an attachment.

Update:  Here's a link to the parts list page for the grips.  As you will see, there are some terminals and connector housings that are also needed.  As for the offerings in the accessory catalog, I didn't see any in that style.

I ordered the same ones...from an '11. You will also need the mating connector to go into the factory connector that is in the harness on your bike now. I looked, but can't find the connectors and housing that I ordered. I went into the dealer and he looked them up for me.

Thanks Jerry , like Brad told me. Not a cheap date. I'll go looking for the connectors MJB mentioned think I've seen them talked about here too. Maybe I'll ask if there's other heated grips she likes better , that come in a kit  :cucumber: :cucumber: :cucumber:instead of ordering individually. Would it be the same install on my 09' SERG? , although I'm leaning towards heat demons on mine. Got Yaffe monkey bars ans Avon grips, that I like.
