K & N oil Filter
« on: October 15, 2016, 10:56:43 PM »

Just wondering if anyone knows the correct K&N Oil Filter for a 13 SERG? I looked it up on the K&N site and it says no equipment fits, I find that a bit surprising.

All the 110's use the same filter.  For my '09 and' 15:  KN-171C (Chrome)

Greg,
I thought the same thing, but that doesn't thread on.  :confused5:

Maybe someone knows something that I don't. It sure wouldn't be the first time.  Is it possible the threads on the filter you're using are stripped or bent? Try another filter?

The K&N filter, KN-171 (C=chrome, B=black) is the correct filter for ALL Twin Cam engines, no matter what model year or if it's a CVO or regular model.

The K&N website tends to be flaky when dealing with some CVO models, as do many others.  For 2013 they list both a FLTRXSE and a FLTRXSE2, and of course they didn't offer two different CVO Road Glides that year.  If you choose the first one in their drop down list, it shows it as a CVO but lists the engine as a 96.  If you choose the second one it just says there are no products for that model.  As I said above, the engines all use the same filter, from 1999 TC88's to the current CVO110's.  I have no idea why the folks at K&N have such a hard time figuring this stuff out.

It will and does thread on without any problems. I am on my 2nd K&N 171C on my 15 RGCVO. Used them on my 09 SERG as well. I buy them from Amazon.

Ditto here guys, same filter for every TC Harley I've owned. If it doesn't fit either they put the wrong filter in the box or as Greg mentioned check the threads.

FWIW just a week or two ago the girl at the parts counter swore up and down that my bike and my buddy's '04 RG had different filters.

Even if the threaded adapter had spun out there simply wouldn't be anything left to attach the new filter to.  If the filter won't screw on to the threaded adapter, and the threads are good, has to be a messed up filter or a filter that is packaged wrong.

I'd still have to suspect mispackaged filters as that's far more unlikely than the company suddenly changing part numbers in mid-stream and screwing up a years old inventory channel.  For what it's worth I got four filters that arrived in the mail last Wednesday.  Checked them to make sure none were mispackaged.  All were fine, all will fit on the engines and all are the old standard K&N part number.

I purchased two via Amazon a few months ago.  Just used the first one on my 2015 SERGU and had no issues installing.  Removal will be much easier with the nut on the end.  I'll use the second one I purchased at the next oil change and order replacements for future changes.

Can you get the hole size and thread count?  It should be 3/4-16.  This is the same as the Evo and the difference is that the 171 has a anti drain back valve.

I am thinking that maybe the one I tried is either packaged wrong, or has some other issue, but certainly not sure. I will dig out my thread gauge and see what that says. In either case and as noted earlier by havenolife it makes one question the Quality Control. I bought 4 of them and stuck one on my wife's twin cam without any problem.

As pointed out in another thread there some pretty major appearance differences between a Harley Filter and the K&N. After I stuck the first one on my wife's bike and hadn't used them on mine yet I just figured something is screwed up so off I went to the Stealership. Now I won't try any of the others until it's time for the next change.

Thanks for the responses!   :2vrolijk_21:
