CVO Lock/Unlock Funk
« on: October 17, 2016, 08:01:45 AM »

2014 CVO Limited with a sticking steering lock. Turns to lock/unlock smooth when unlocked but doesn't unlock half the time with either remote of button on the dash. Have to push button several times, jiggle the switch or turn bars to bump it a few times in order to get an unlock.

Normal or are most of you getting a good unlock on a single try?

Been like this since new. It's not like when the steering lock/ignition switch on non CVO bikes would jam on the lock from forks being turn and locked then the pressure of the steering jams it. There is a difference in the feel of the bars when that happens. Can feel the weight of the bike on the bars and lock when that happens. Mine has no pressure on the lock or bars and still no unlock until I mess with multiple button unlocks pushes or jiggle it like a toilet handle.
Anyone else or do I got a bad lock?

Not normal.  Should be a warranty issue. If you have complained to the dealer, what did they say?

There were lots of complaints on the older models with the auto lock feature and bad fork locks, but I don't remember hearing anywhere near as many over the past couple years.  Hopefully you contacted the dealership and even Harley itself so you have it on record.  Is the bike still in warranty?  If so, get it to the dealer and have them fix it.  If not, contact them and Harley anyway and see what they will do.  It should work smoothly and with one press of the button.

My 2015 will not turn to the fork lock position so sometime in the next couple of weeks it'll go in for warranty at the same time the rear tire is getting replaced (just worn out and cupped at 18k).

My 13 CVO Ultra Classic does the same thing I think.

If the forks are locked with the bike on the stand and I hit the unlock on the FOB and turn the knob everything is fine.

If I stand the bike up before unlocking with the FOB the knob will not turn. I complained to dealer when it was still under warranty and they did nothing about it. Said it was working fine. I dropped the issue and the dealer.

On my 16 CVO limited the forks will always unlock but there is a catch when turning the knob if the bike is on the kick stand. If the bike is upright the knob turns freely.
