Riding the Northern Rockies......
« on: October 25, 2016, 08:43:00 AM »

I've come across these publications and wondering if any of you have any first hand experience with them?  What's good.....what's missing?

Are you asking about the books or the Rockies? Have not seen the books/publications but have ridden the Rockies & highly recommend it.

Cheers Tom

I checked them out. A 500 page phonebook just for MT and uncoated, so don't get it wet. Pass.

I used Butler maps before I had a smartphone. Those are the old kind 4x7 unfolding maps that you can't ever fold back to normal once you open it. Ha. Can't get those wet either but they're tiny and weigh nothing.

Coloradotom.....are they just maps or does it include things to see and do along the way....point of interest, etc?

I haven't used a map in years.....since my first gps.  So the maps wouldn't be of much use to me.  Looking more for points of interest, history, etc.

Nah nothing special like that and the roads, well, they're pretty much like in the HOG book if you're familiar with that. Scenic ones are highlighted, pretty basic.

To be honest, the best map I've used is that HD 'touring guide' map book HOG puts out every year. I converted to life back in '94 so I have no idea how much it costs per year now - but that book comes with me on every trip. Has all the dealers and their phone numbers in it, points of interest, the good roads are in yellow, etc.

Since when are The NORTHERN ROCKIES in Montana?

Since they started calling a part of this country in the east, the "midwest"......nothing west and nothing mid about it.   :nixweiss:

The Rockies continue NORTHWARD for quite a ways beyond Montana. Maybe Central Rockies?
