2015 CVO Limited Question - exhaust
« on: October 25, 2016, 03:16:07 PM »

I have been told that I can change my header pipe without having the bike tuned and not hurt the bike.  Just wanted to check with people that know the answer.  Please advise.  Thanks

If you change the head pipe and and have slip on mufflers, your bike will be running leaner than it already is from the factory.  It should be tuned to correct this, it will also help remove heat and improve performance.

I would not change the head pipe with out a tune, or a tuner installed with a down loaded map for your application.

Whoever indicated to you that you can change the airflow (pipes, a/c, cams, etc) through the engine without compensating with fueling recalibration, is, well, just uninformed or misinformed.
ANYTHING done that changes the airflow will need recalibration, preferably on a dyno where all running loads, temps, and rpm can be properly recalibrated for the airflow change(s).
Dyno tuning will pick up performance issues caused by things like pinched cam plate O'rings or intake leaks, etc, etc. that usually cannot be diagnosed by the rider.
Dyno tuning will not only to maximize power by finding the best AFR for the build but also maximizing timing events for best power.
While I understand dyno tuning is not inexpensive, when done by a qualified tuner, the bike will run much better than any street tune/guess.

I agree 100% with Bob's statement.

It has also been proven time and time again that a bike in stock configuration will reap benefits from being properly tuned.

Dear USNCVO:

I am not a shill for Fullsac, but I have used their head pipe, baffle, and tune "kit" with great results.  It is a do it yourself solution that most any weekend warrior can accomplish and it is somewhat less expensive than going full shop mode.

Do a search on Fullsac to see a ton of info to include instructions and reviews.

Whichever way you go, you will be happier with better pipes and a tune.     BTW, I think Fullsac have a 10% discount for forum members.

Good Luck and Cheers,

Mark

Thanks guys...Your answers support what I thought to be true.  I bought the 4 1/2 RC components when I bought the bike.  They are the mufflers for the end goal of 117ci/585 cams/tune.  I'll just hold off on the header until I do the build.  I only pay for tuning once that way.
