Fiberglass tour paks
« on: February 14, 2007, 07:03:47 PM »

has anybody tried replacing the heavy not very attractive leather tour pak with the standard fiberglass one?  I have been trying to get my dealer to see if it is possible for the moco to get one painted in the correct color for my '07.  any ideas?

Welcome aboard guys! Two new members on this lonely thread. May I suggest you introduce yourselves on the "New Members" Thread. I just wanted to say Hi. I have a SERK so don't know much about tourpaks. There are many others here that can assist you. I'm sure you'll hear back soon. Enjoy the site and your SE bikes! Hoist! 8)

WHEN WE WERE AT STURGIS AT THE SE BREAKFAST ALOT OF SE OWNERS WERE ASKING MOCO FOR PAINTED TOURPAKS,AND SAID THEY WOULD TALK MORE ABOUT IT.THEY SAID THEY WERE WORKING ON A OPTION TO OFFER LOCKING SADDLEBAGS AND TOURPAKS FOR ULTRA'S.I TALKED TO THE HEAD OF BODY AND PAINT TO SEE IF WE COULD GET TOURPACKS PAINTED TROUGH THE SPECTRUM CUSTOM PAINT PROGRAM PG 802 IN PARTS BOOK.HE TALKED TO ONE OF THE SE BOSSES AND SAID THEY WOULD TALK MORE AT MOCO TO SEE IF THEY COULD WORK SOMETHING OUT.I WAS HOPEING TO SEE SOMETHING COME OUT OF LAST MONTHS MEETINGS,BUT HAVN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET.HOPE THEY DO SOMETHING SOON OR MIGHT HAVE TO TRY PAINT MATCH PROCESS TO GET ONE.IF ANYBODY GETS A PAINT CODE OR GOOD MATCH FORMULA IT WOULD BE GREAT TO POST ON THE SITE.GOOD LUCK RIDE SAFE JDO

You will not get paint codes from moco...they change painters each year...that's why they have had quality problems.  The easiest solution for you is to buy a king tour pak and take a painted part from your bike to a reputable painter and he can match it without a problem.  My 05 SEEG paint was from ppg and my local painter easily matched the cherry paint for my needs.  If you are in/near Atlanta I can give you his name but any good painter can do it.
BTW...I am told by a good source that MOCO has decided to do the Ultra again in 08 as a CVO bike....departing from their usual 2 year CVO per model norm.  They have not yet decided (I'm told) whether they will do the leather tour pak again or go with the hard version..my guess is the leather again....because regardless of what everyone thinks it is the best selling CVO ever.

I just picked up my King Tour Pak from my painter. I had it painted Autumn Haze to match my '06 SE Ultra and it looks great. Have it set up to be fully detachable. I'll post pictures this weekend after I get everything installed and mounted. This mod will make an otherwise awesome motorcycle even better. :2vrolijk_21:

hello;  i  have  many  contections  with  white  collar employees  at  harley  plants  in  wis.  they  will  not  release  any  paint  codes  or sell any  paints bulk..  they  will  not even  paint any  at  the  tomahawk , wi.   plant  or  at  the  cvo paint plant this  year in  grafton , wi.  no  employee  will loose  there  job  trying  to  get  it  done ...  i  guess  it  is  to  our benifet that  they  don't  , so somebody  does not  try  to  copy  the  bikes  that  we  paid  big  money  for..  thanks

they change painters each year...

No disrespect meant by this...but that's not true about the changing of the painters each year....

Sorry to say, but you may want to look for different resources... :2vrolijk_21:

J,
noticing your location, I assume you speak with some authority on that. I kinda thought I would be odd to be changing highly skilled painters annually....I don't thing you find new ones standing in the unemployment line.

I will be posting the website of a very good painter in Arizona  soon, he matched and painted a tourpack to my 04 SEEG and it is awesome. I will be posting pictures this weekend.

That company was the specialty painter for several years prior to change made with the 2007 model year.  Who did it before Calibre and how long did they have the gig?

One of the very first posts in this thread (FLHTCUSE/FLHTCUSE2 Screamin’ Eagle® Ultra Classic® Electra Glide® ) shows what a painted tour pack would look like.
