Dyno
« on: February 14, 2007, 09:52:07 PM »

I have a 2007 SERK-with Vance & Hines slip on mufflers.  The mufflers sound great.  My question is do I need to dyno my bike.  The bike runs very well and seems to have plenty of power.

Trailer welcome to the site.
That's a good question to ask about the dyno.
The answer really depends on you and what you want.

Let me ask you these questions,
When you fill up with gas do you buy the premium? ( or do you get the mid or lower grade)
When you change the oil in your bike do you use Premium oil? ( or do you go to the parts store and buy whatevers on special)
When you bike gets dirty do you wash it as soon as possible? ( or say screw it, it's just going to get dirty again.)
Did you buy your Screaming Eagle Road King because the dealer had the wrong price on it and you figured at 14K you couldn't go wrong.
When you pass thru the parts department of the Harley shop do you pass right by the chrome figuring that if you wanted to see yourself you could go home and look in the mirror?

If you went for the cheaper alternative above then you can skip the dyno run! ;)

Funny answer Chip :huepfenlol2:

In order to do a dyno tune you will need a fuel management device like the Race tuner, PCIII, or the Zippers ECM.

Do you have one of these?

If not and you just did slip on muiffs the likelyhood that your bike is running dangerously lean is very high.

If you do have one of these devices and you loaded a "canned" map for the mods you have then you should be close to where you need to be. Many people are happy with the way a bike runs with a canned map. To get the most out of your bike a dyno tune is always in order. This of course is true unless you have the Zipper ECm with the autotune module.

LOL, Chip, you ain't right! :2vrolijk_21:

Trailer, you might find this thread helpful, though some of the text is missing due to the recent software conversion:
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php/topic,8852.0/all.html

In that thread it is debated whether or not the closed loop system is able to compensate for mild mods like pipes and air cleaners.  I think what Chip was saying is, how perfect do you want the bike to perform?  Getting on a dyno will eliminate any doubt.

Exactly Brian!

But let me step out on the limb again,

I may be wrong but people on this site are USUALLY better than the average,

"SHES ALL PURDY AND I WANT HER LOUD AND I DON'T CARE HOW SHE RUNS"

kind of people!

Of course if you want to treat your S/E like the bike it is, then get to the dyno.

Stop listening to me and listen to hd-dude and 103T, I'm in deep chit anyway, I lost Nancy's Valentines Day present!
Well I didn't lose it, I just hid it so she wouldn't find it and now I can't find it! >:(

Hey Trailer - your scoot looks great. I have tha same colour on order though I'm not sure when it is going to arrive.

There have been some great threads on regarding engine mods for the new S/E's. Have a trawl around and you'll be amazed at how much you can spend to get your $30,000 bike to run right!

Enjoy, and let us know how you get on with your Dyno.

Chip, did you leave the photo of your bike on the nightstand or did she toss that in the garage with you?
