My wife's dad was career Air Force, and me, my younger brother, my favorite brother-in-law, and my nephew all served as well.
But today, I want to especially remember my father; who did two tours in the south Pacific during WWII, and later went from the Army to the newly formed Air Force in 1947. He did several beach head landings and was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Later, he went on to receive a bronze star and a whole chest full of "fruit salad", every bit of it well deserved. Dad served 26 years total then retired in 1967, and then we lost him in 2002 to a brain hemorrhage. I was there when he passed.
My dad taught me how to throw a football and shoot a hockey puck (and a gun), and he rode dirt bikes with me before I was old enough to be "street legal". Some of my best memories are of me and him riding together. Thanks for all the good memories, and for your sacrifice for this country and your years of service, Dad.
And a big thanks goes out as well to all my veteran brothers and sisters that served.
