M8 comparison ride
« on: November 14, 2016, 10:22:34 AM »

Got a great opportunity Sat at Cox HD in Asheboro to ride the following; stock 107, stage 3 104 (114 upgrade), and CVO 114 stock. I would say that the stock ride was good, quite and pulled better low to mid than the 103. The upgrade was much better, better sound with the screaming eagle slipons and breather. I would say better than stock 110 and equal to or better than Fullsac upgrade for the 110.
The CVO stock 114 was the best in my opinion. Good low range power thru the mid range. Not sure how the numbers stack up against a 110 but the 114 is quicker. I'm sure with a breather header and pipes it would pick up some power and sound better as well. Its very quiet even a full song. Brakes are good on all and new front end is fantastic. Only real negative on the CVO Ultra was the seating position. At 6'2" and 280 with 31" inseam (long waisted) I was sitting on the tank with the back rest on, and brake pedal in a bad position, to close. I'm sure a different seat could fix that but at $41k I would hate to buy knowing I'm going to throw away that high dollar seat and need to change the bars. I was really disappointed in that brake location and seat placement. It was dangerous. Bike really sits high as well. Hope the CVO road glide shows up soon.

I too really like the 114.  My 2017 CVO Limited is much stronger stock than any of my 110s - an smoother too.  I agree the ride is much improved.  Personally I don't notice any difference in the seating from my 2012 CVO Ultra and the bike doesn't seem any taller or more top heavy to me but everyone's perspective is different.   You said the back rest was installed.  That can make a big difference if it was in the most forward position.  Once I found the sweet spot (and it took several tries) on the mounting position to the fender and to the tilt position to the backrest everything regarding seating position fell right in place.

I'm on the small side - 5' 8", 155 lbs, 30" inseam but I have absolutely no problem flat footing this bike or any of the other big Harley's I've owned.  I am not sure exactly what is different about the rear brake pedal but it does seem I have to move/lift my foot more than I did on my 2012.  I tried a Softbrake pedal but it was so low and so outboard due to the more intrusive lower fairing that it took over the front half of my footboard.  I switched back to the stock pedal as I can get my size 11 boot under it and have full utilization of the footboard.  I'm adapting to the stock pedal and decided that it is acceptable.

I also had the opportunity to test ride the 107 and the 114 CVO Street Glide and the Limited at Chunky River Harley in Meridian, Ms. The 107 on a road glide special. The 114 has some pep but when changing gears you could feel it in the clutch lever. Overall the ride was much improved compared to my 2010 CVO Street Glide. But not enough at this time to rush out and sign papers. Far as I'm concerned I have the best bike you can own, that is one that is paid for. Lol.

I have just over 5850 miles on my 17 SESG.  The ride, especially the front end is much better than the 15 SERGU I traded.  The low end to mid range power is better, and the 17 is still 100% stock.  The 15 had a Fullsac head pipe, 2.25 baffles a TTS tuner and a good Tune by Doc.  The engine is much quieter, no valve train rattle.

So far I am very happy with the new motor and suspension.

My wife has never noticed and increase in power, not going from a 96 to a 103.  First ride on her new 107 RGS she commented, why didn't you tell me this bike had more power, it almost jumped out of my hand going up the drive way.  She traded a 2015 103 RGS with 46K on it for the 17.  Her 15 had a Fullsac exhaust, heavy breather, TTS tuner and tune, the 17 is 100% stock.
