Loosely Thinking of going to NYC for a few days
including New Year's Eve !!!
Typically book our travel through Expedia ,
but wanted to get your thoughts and opinions ?
Looking for Times Square hotels that are
close "short  walking distance " to the ball drop , any suggestions ?

he is right....here is a quick search using 12/31 as the arrival date.....look at those insane prices!! I tried a day or 2 earlier as well and the same result.

Also be very aware of pick pockets and purse snatchers.  People carrying a purse should consider carrying it under their arm pit with their arm around it and zip all pockets closed.

Do not go into a ATM enclosure to withdraw money if you feel unsafe and always stand in front of the key pad when putting in your pin number.  Put all money and cards away before you leave the enclosure. Try to position yourself so that the cameras can see you at all times.

If you have a Conceal Carry Permit, NYC will only recognize and accept the 218 permit, even then they love to bust them.

I live about 45 min from NYC and hate going there for any reason. I can usually limit my visits to 1-2 times per year if I am lucky. Hate the people, the crowds and the congestion. You couldn't pay me to go there for new years.......

Went once in 1980...Amtrak from Atlanta with a friend from college.  Not at Christmas or New Years, however.  Interesting place to visit but.....

My wife and I would go to NYC once a year for several years, always liked it but would not want to live there.  Fine for 3 or 4 days. Stayed in the Times Square (Theater District) area but not during New Years Eve.

I worked in right Times Square in the JVC building for about 15 years a while ago. I remember $5 packs of gum until you told the guy you worked in the building behind him and then all the sudden it was 50c.... Expect that kind of gouging. Now for New Years Eve it is unbelievably packed, everywhere from 42nd up to Radio City. And unless they changed things once you are in that area you can not get out, not even to use a bathroom. And unless you want to be a mile away, plan on getting there real early and have an empty bladder.

Unless you lost a bet or have some overwhelming desire to scratch this from a bucket list, I would avoid it like the plague, even if you won the trip for free.

No offense to any that live there or enjoy going there, but I couldn't agree more.... I went there once and that was enough (IE: one to many times).

My wife likes going....she tries to talk me into it and I usually win.....

An whoever said about new years--yes you are packed in like sardines and can't even get out to use the bathroom...and if you do, you are not going to get back to where you were before. I heard that from people that have been there....I won't ever find out first hand.
