Might have known, to cold to drink a beer now
« on: December 18, 2016, 10:05:36 AM »

In June I contacted a pile driving/dock building service as my float dock had been stolen, and what's water if you can't drink a beer on it!! We agree on a design & price and he says, "things are really busy, will be about the middle of August before we can start." OK, what one summer lost. Many phone calls and head butts later......finally!! December 3rd a barge with a track-hoe pulls up to the bank and work starts. Things are moving quickly now as he wants some money......as for the beer over the water, there's always next year. Gonna be worth the wait.

You would love the waterfowl chances, Kirk. Only one thing needs to change.....years ago Geese were protected in SC. When people started feeding them, they stopped flying south and Governments, doing what they do best, failed to act!! Now cleaning what a gaggle of geese leave on any water structure is a pain in the butt.

Gonna be a nice setup when complete. :2vrolijk_21:

I'm still kind of at a loss about the float dock getting stolen though. That's pretty damn low >:(

Yep, I guess it's cheaper to steal one than start from scratch. Really not hard to modify one so as nobody would recognize......most all floating docks use the same flotation, but have only heard of it 2 other times. Go figure.

Just when you think you've heard it all!  I guess nothings sacred anymore, sorry for the loss of your dock.  Build it better with a strong hidden chain!

Do you get a discount for the guy "moderating" his start time so long?  ::)

Also, since I've never built a dock or had to look up design requirements for one how does a dock on fixed piers compensate for water level changes?

Last July my floating dock was severely damaged during a storm  with confirmed winds of 85 plus. It was repairable, which I have now done, but we had been wanting one a little larger anyway, so in July of this year we designed and put a deposit down on a new one. They ordered materials about three weeks ago and have started construction. They're telling me it will be March or April for delivery. All the dock builders at our lake have a reputation for being late. I guess it goes with thec territory. Now I'm trying to sell our other dock.

I don't think it's just your lake.  A few years ago, mine was suppose to start in April.  It started in May, the following year.

I asked the same question. They built the dock based on "full pond level" as set by the power company. No worry for me as I'm on the main river channel, but I have seen boats hanging over dry land during times of very low water.
